What started out as a way for us to use up our ugly or broken cookies has evolved over the years into one of our favourite snacks ever. Who doesn’t love crunchy cookies tumbled in chocolate? Five years ago when we heard that Michelle Yeoh was coming to Roselle (east), we were working at our west end shop. We drove like maniacs across the city, hoping that by some miracle, all of our 4 tables weren’t occupied so she would have a place to sit. This was back when we had evening dessert hours- remember that? 😂 Luckily enough, her timing was impeccable and there was a free table. We figured we’d just say hi and gush, but she actually invited us to sit with her! She was warm, gracious and even asked us questions about our business and journey, listening to us as if we were old friends. She came by this morning to pick up some treats for her hardworking crew and was thrilled to see that we’re doing well. A lot has changed since then but she is still that same incredibly kind and down-to-earth person we met back then. We learned a hard lesson last year when we decided to change things up and do our cookie box in a round tin. Adorable as they were, it was a nightmare to tie the ribbon and make sure they weren't sliding all over the place (we temporarily solved this with a *lot* of tape). Never again 😂 With a little more experience now, we are very happy and relieved to re-introduce our annual cookie tin, but this time in a beautiful rose gold rectangle tin! November is always a challenge for pavlova inspiration. It’s a dessert that is best served with bright, fresh-tasting fruit. Mother Nature, like the rest of us, is in her seasonal shutdown mode. Last year we had a small aha moment during this time: what if we did a Black Forest inspired pavlova? We could use sour cherries frozen and preserved from the Niagara region recommended to us by our friend @toronto2niagara (who is also our cherry delivery person- thank you 🫶) We could highlight it using chocolate from friends that we have long-respected and admired at SOMA Chocolatemaker @somachocolatemaker @soma.dc.soma It was a runaway hit and now one of our favourite pavlovas of the year.
