Another wonderful fundraiser for my high school alma mater, Beach High, at the beautiful W Hotel! This year’s theme, Havana Nights, was so lovely and fun, with the addition of the amazing percussionist @rumba_king creating extra excitement on the dancefloor as he played drums and bongos to the music I played. So much fun working with you Luis! 🪘🥁🎶👏👏👏 I want to thank @ukjule123 from the bottom of my heart for always thinking of me to DJ her children’s school fundraisers. I am so blessed to have Juliet, @monikamsg @mbshptsa and all of the amazing PTA moms contact me for DJ services for so many years now: from elementary, to Nautilus, to Beach High, I’ve seen their beautiful children go from little kids to pre-teens to wonderful, beautiful, talented teenagers. I hope these students realize and appreciate how hard their parents and educators work to ensure a bright present and future for all Beach High students, raising funds to provide the school with much needed resources which will enhance their learning experience and prepare them better for life after high school. December 14: a beautiful evening DJ’ing at Miami raised, Emmy-award winning TV newscaster and local legend Ileana Bravo’s’ @realileana.bravo beautiful home for her annual ladies Christmas party. Thank you Ileana for putting your trust in me and for being such a kind, considerate and attentive hostess. Thank you to Priscilla @priscilla.marrero for recommending my DJ services to Ileana! It’s always a joy to see Priscilla, who was one of my beloved sister’s dearest friends, and whose birthday party I DJ’d back in 2016 thanks to my sister recommending me. I also had the most beautiful surprise, seeing my ex-boss lady Jackie Arango who I last saw in early 2020! We could not believe we were both in the same room again and kept hugging each other with happiness. Jackie is not only a beautiful human being inside and out, she is also a brilliant and admirable attorney whom I had the pleasure of working with at Akerman for many years. And finally, to hit the cosmic jackpot one more time, I see Phillis whom I met through our mutual friend who left this earth too soon, Hilda Mitrani, @digitalhilda who recommended me to Phillis and for who I DJ’d a few fun shindigs (who among the guests was Ileana). What an incredible gift from God to have crossed paths with all these wonderful ladies and to be able to celebrate life with them!! Oyster Fest at the Coconut Grove Sailing Club, Feb. 11, 2023. Thank you so much to my friend @rmarshall22 for hiring me to DJ this wonderful charity event for such a great group of people at such a legendary place in Miami, where I hear the waiting list to become a member is 7 years ⛵️🙀. This year started off very rocky for me, with my beloved sister Miriam passing away on January 29th, a loss at which I am still in disbelief and in a hazy daze. This sweet gig was less than 2 weeks after her departure, and I am so thankful to Marshall for giving me the opportunity to do what I love most, to play music. To watch people dance, sing, see and hear their joy when I play a song they requested. Music, sweet music, the greatest Rx and therapy for any grieving soul. Four competing bands brought their A-game to the Miami Beach Bandshell for the 2nd Annual Law Rocks Miami last night! These bands, all featuring legal professionals, proved more than worthy competition for the title of Miami’s most rockin’ legal band. This electric evening had the crowd singing all the way through and dancing the night away, all while raising over $67k for nonprofit organizations! The evening opened with a commanding performance by special guest, the Miami Beach Rock Ensemble. The impressive 12-member rock band featuring teens from Miami Beach High School came hot out of the gate with an electrifying performance of “Paradise City” by Guns N’ Roses, complete with shredding guitar solos. They brought the magic to the Bandshell with a mind-blowing rendition of Heart’s “Magic Man”, getting the crowd going with a setlist of pure classics that showed off their exceptional level of talent and ability to wow a crowd. It was a great example of the power of youth music education, and Law Rocks was happy to award the Music Matters Grant to the nonprofit responsible for the performance, Young Musicians Unite. Throughout the night, special guest DJ Moto hit the stage, spinning crowd favorites that kept the vibe alive in between bands and seriously impressing our host, radio legend Doc Reno. If anyone was lucky and blessed enough to live in Miami in the 1990’s, you know that was THEE best era to live on the Beach (newcomers to Miami: Miami people call Miami Beach “The Beach” or “La Playa.”) So many living legends were made in the 90s (and even early 2000’s). So great meeting you Chris, thank you for the great conversation, DJ tips and most especially for the superb mix of fabulous music, both oldskool and new. For those of you who remember the old Royal Bavarian Schnitzel Hous on 79th street, it has been revamped and it’s now called The New Schnitzel Hous, in the same spot. Beautiful job with the vintage 80s decor and cozy vibe, same home-made style German food. The spaetzle is to die fuh. Incredible to be able to drink a $7 beer in this town. DJ Chris Smeejay is there every Thursday from 8:30-11:30 pm, i highly recommend you come check it out, great place for a date night or just a chill dinner with friends, the music volume is just right to have great conversation. On March 31 I had the honor and pleasure to DJ at the Soho House as a guest of the amazing musical band 80 Degrees West @80degreeswest formed by local Miami music legend, my friend Rudy Gil, who was in the 80s freestyle band Secret Society, and @chrisaphipps88 Chris Phipps, keyboardist for 80s new wave band When In Rome, whose song “The Promise” remains a hit to this day. It was an honor and a blessing to DJ the 40th birthday of a very special friend and amazing human being, Andres Velez, on Friday, April 7. Andres is a living miracle, an example of human strength, resilience, faith and the will to live. His existence proves how the power of love heals what science may deem impossible, the love of his soulmate Rakeli Ortiz and his daughter Lola, who refused to give up on him and slowly but surely brought him back to life with their undying faith in God. So yes, I feel so blessed to have DJ’d this immense celebration of life for a heroic man and his soulmate, a love story like no other, an example of what true love looks like. I just heard about the incident at @stevespizza on march 15 that an armed man entered the restaurant and gave everyone quite a scare, he even fired some shots right outside Steve’s. Hopefully they’ll catch him!
