In 1 Kings 13:11-32, a younger prophet is given a sure word from the Lord to NOT go home with anyone from Bethel, the city he had just left from rebuking King Jeroboam for setting up elaborate idol worship. But an older prophet comes along and claims to have received word from the Lord to take the young prophet home. He lied. And the younger prophet dies for believing the lie. What would have saved this young prophet's life which was later extinguished by a lion on the road home? The same thing that will save any of us: loyalty to the sure word of the Lord. The word of God was this young man's safety, and he abandoned it (Dale Ralph Davis). There are words today spoken from pulpits, religious leaders, nice "Christians," pious and lovely individuals that we know well in the community ... and they contradict the plain and sure words of God in scripture. People like to shun God when things aren't going right in their life, not realizing that God is testing their faith and loyalty. Our Lord Jesus was taken up to heaven in a cloud (Acts 1:9) and will return in a cloud as well (Luke 21:27). Here, however, Jude applies a strong negative imagery. There is probably no religious group that is more faithful than the Jehovah’s Witnesses at spreading their message. Unfortunately, the message is full of distortions, deceptions, and false doctrine. May God open the eyes of the Jehovah’s Witnesses to the truth of the gospel and the true teaching of God’s Word. What do Jehovah’s Witnesses believe? Close scrutiny of their doctrinal position on such subjects as the deity of Christ, salvation, the Trinity, the Holy Spirit, and the atonement shows beyond a doubt that they do not hold to orthodox Christian positions on these subjects. Jehovah’s Witnesses believe Jesus is Michael the archangel, the highest created being. This contradicts many passages of Scripture that clearly declare Jesus to be God (John 1:1, 14; 8:58; 10:30). Jehovah’s Witnesses believe salvation is obtained by a combination of faith, good works, and obedience. This contradicts Scripture, which declares salvation to be received by grace through faith (John 3:16; Ephesians 2:8–9; Titus 3:5).
