One of the main attractions in Mirissa is whale watching, with the opportunity to spot blue whales, sperm whales, and dolphins in the nearby ocean waters. Home is where my laptop is: so I can suss out things like ‘how to get the beaches across the bay’ 😂🙈 Ok it probably didn’t need to take the whole month for me to figure out that the only way to access these particular beaches was via boat (and with someone who had permission to be there) ⚓️ But slow travelling allows for some extra adventure time, to suss out the vibe and to also wait for better weather as well (I would not have wanted to be out in that wind a month earlier when I first arrived 😄). Moving day!! 💥 Although being a nomad for the past year has had its beauty, today I'm choosing to rent a tiny little room in an adorable little ski town. It will only be for a few months, but it allows me to have a home-base for once and to give me that sense of belonging again 🏘 Continuous traveling and solo road tripping does eventually take a toll, and sometimes you just need a bit of a reset. For me, that reset is to have my own small sanctuary where I can focus on personal growth, pick up a couple of hobbies for the summer, and continue growing my online business 💻 There are so many cool things to do here in Canada and sadly, in the 1.5yrs I've been here, I'm yet to even pick up a hobby! I'm always too busy jetsetting off or jumping in the car to drive out to some random town in the middle of nowhere. But now I have no excuse not to go all in, invest in 'the things' and get out there 🚲 I can't wait to see what this little town has to offer, to grow my circle of friends and to become part of a wonderful community ✨️ But don't worry, in just a few short months, I'll be back on the road again. Hier verzette ik me hevig tegen, de sterkte behoefte om vrij te zijn is daar ontstaan. Mijn moeder leerde me daarnaast dat als je eerlijk bent en je afspraken nakomt, je vertrouwen krijgt van anderen. Als zelfstandig ondernemer heb je een drive om voor je passie te gaan en daarmee je inkomen te verdienen. Je wilt je eigen plan trekken en producten of diensten aanbieden die mensen aanspreken. De enige manier waarop dit werkt is wanneer je authentiek en oprecht bent. Mensen kopen bij jou, omdat ze er een goed gevoel bij hebben. Voor mij is vrijheid ondermeer dat ik met mijn laptop en telefoon overal voor mijn klanten kan werken, waar ik maar wil. In de fijnste koffietentjes of de mooiste lobbies van hotels, zoals hier in het @vandervalkhotelhaarlem, in een stad naar keuze. Ze had een mooi logo en een website, zei ze. Maar hoe kwam ze nou aan klanten? Tijdens een 1 op 1 Freedom Boost sprak ik een rete-ambitieuze en gedreven net gestarte ondernemer. Ze had net een paar maanden door z Zuid-Afrika gereisd en was nu weer even in Nederland. Ze was haar online business gestart omdat ze klaar was met het 9 tot 5 stramien. Er was iets veel groters voor haar de bedoeling, dat voelde ze aan alles. Ze wilde het reizen vasthouden. Overal ter wereld kunnen leven. En bovendien wilde ze met haar business anderen helpen met haar gave en talent. Met haar missie. Online. Niet later, maar nu. Logo klaar. Website bijna af. Instagram-kanaal opgestart. En toen... niks. Ze was haar droom achterna gegaan (dapper!), maar kwam er gaandeweg achter dat het niet zo gemakkelijk was om een business op te zetten. Klanten kwamen niet. Omzet bleef daardoor uit. En haar worst case scenario kwam steeds dichterbij: terug naar Nederland, terug in loondienst. Haar gift in de ijskast zetten. Ze werd bijna misselijk bij die gedachte. Het was gewoon geen optie voor haar. Slapeloze nachten had ze ervan. En enorme financiële stress. Wat ze niet zag was dat ze zich met de verkeerde dingen bezighield. See how the lady selling empanadas from her stall on wheels jokes with the man with the great moustache. See how little children jump from tile to tile, chasing pidgeons and giggling. See how the group of women takes turns taking pictures of each other in front of the statue by the town hall, and the little whoop and a cheer they give each other after everyone's photo session. See the woman next to you on the bench videocalling home, the face of her smiling husband filling her phone screen. See the men gathered to talk about life and nothing at all, some still in their office shirts. Everywhere you go, everywhere you travel, you will always see people doing little people things, going about their people business. LAOS QUICK-ROUND! This is the Nam Xao viewpoint in Vang Vieng and probably the most Instagrammed place in the whole country! (Ofc I took a photo too... I'm not above tourist traps 😅) Here are a few random things about Laos in no particular order: ✨ Laos is the only land-locked country in Southeast Asia. Maybe this is why it's also one of the least visited ones in the area? ✨ The price of the visa to Laos is determined by your country. I'm from Finland so it was 50 usd for me ✌️ ✨ Laos is really popular with Korean tourists! There are lots of Korean restaurants, and many signs are in Lao, English, Chinese and Korean. On the streets children were making Korean hearts at me. ✨ Laos is the most bombed country in history with the US dropping cluster bombs at an average of every 8 minutes for 9 years during the Vietnam War. There's still a lot of unexploded ordnance and a great NGO to help victims who have lost limbs to them ✨ Laos' nickname is Land of a Million Elephants (which is cool - BUT they're still behind other SE countries on elephant welfare and offer elephant rides. Don't ride an elephant on your holiday!) It's been a few weeks since Laos but don't worry... But I’ve got so used to it as a remote lifer, I forget it can be one of the scariest factors when living the digital nomad life 💻 And I’m not saying I don’t have doubts or slip ups (I’m human), but there are definitely some habits I have in place without even really thinking that help me to make my remote life that much smoother (and ten times more fun as a result)! 🎡 •Setting time aside to make goals for a destination and plan the logistics of the next chapter. Why do I want to go to this destination? And how can I fit in time for seeing the sites I want to see, and people I wanna catch up with while also balancing work and down time? 📱 •And speaking of down time, I’ve reversed discipline as a form of self care. Honouring work times, sleep and making time for some pampering, are just a couple of the ways I make sure to look after number one, while on the move. Because if I’m not on my game, everything else crumbles 💛 •Have a support system in place. People you can reach out to for day to day social time, but also people who you can reach out to when you need an extra boost (accountability calls and voicenotes with the amazing @nienkeninatravels in the last couple of months have been a literal game changer) 🫶 This is just an overview, but of course we all have our own versions of this. After a few days of intense hiking in Bariloche, Argentina, we were ready for some less intense hiking. So we took the bus to Cascada de Los Duendes. It’s still a 2KM walk from the bus station to the trailhead, and from there it was a pleasant hike to this wonderful viewpoint. On the return hike, we detoured to these waterfalls which while not impressive, made a nice outing. What I love about these hikes is that I can enjoy myself in nature and still get a full day’s work. As a digital nomad, balancing the work & travel life is crucial to my lifestyle’s success. 6 YEAR NOMADVERSARY 🎉🎉 I left Finland 6 years ago! It feels like an insane amount of time: most of my twenties, over half a decade, a long relationship. Still, it feels so very recent. The passing of time always shocks me. It feels like I'm always on the move around this time. I've just landed in Mexico - last year I was travelling from Lisbon to Malta - four years ago I got to Bali without any idea how long I'd stay. Being outside Finland has made me start to question my identity a bit. When people ask me where I'm from, I say Finland with a full heart, but then that leads to follow-ups: no, I don't live there anymore; I don't really live anywhere; I do live in Bali, I say proudly, knowing that that's not completely true either. I'm definitely not a backpacker anymore, but I'm also not really a traveller considering how much time I usually spend in one place. I don't feel like an expat or an immigrant because all my ties to other places are emotional, not official. It feels fine to call myself a digital nomad until I run into people who don't really know what it means, and anyway the word has started to gather a bit of negative momentum. Either way, today I'm just going to celebrate the determination and work I put in to make my own kind of life, and feel grateful for the privileges that have helped me along the way. Hosted my first girls’ night of the year with some car towing hiccups, made a lot of delicious soups, school closures and snow days, tech and WiFi outages, first work trip of the year to Houston, TX, a wellness, fitness, dance, and music festival with old and new friends, taking part in a 10,000-person acroyoga project (yes, 10,000! I am #9001), and very many milestone celebrations and just-because get-togethers with loved ones near and far in between. My heart is full ❤️ And my mind has resolved to take better pictures in February.

Where would you move? 🤔 Top of my list is the Netherlands 100% 🇳🇱 I’ve visited a good few times (bc how could I not take every chance I could get 🤪), but I’d love to actually experience life there properly and explore slower 🌿 Moving to England 🏴 9+ yrs ago was the best decision of my life...and if you’ve moved abroad once, you know how ✨ addictive ✨it can be... And as if I needed a sign 🔮 to say move to rhe Netherlands, I found out recently that if you’re considered “highly skilled” 👩💻 (which many tech roles are) 🙏 then you can get pretty sizeable tax 💸 reductions (like 30% off) 👀 as an expat living + employed in the country! So if you’re looking to make the move abroad / digital nomad ✈️🌎for the life experience or the money, take a look at what programs governments are running to encourage high-skilled workers or just digital nomad visas 💌 in general (yes those are a thing!!) as they may come with extra perks or an easier entry in 👀 (Salary information based on Levels.fyi data. LAOS FOR DIGITAL NOMADS?? When I googled this very question, the answer was a resounding... Ehhhhh. Despite being squeezed between nomad hotspots Vietnam, Thailand and Cambodia, there doesn't seem to be much of a scene in Laos. Maybe this will be different in the future, though? The internet connection wasn't nearly as bad as I imagined, so even if it's not as super-speed as many are used to, mobile data worked well for me. Vientiane the capital already has some expats so I could see it being a worthy contender. Vang Vieng is the prettiest, but it's very backpackery and had the worst wifi. Luang Prabang, however, I could see becoming a mini Chiang Mai type nomad town. It has beautiful scenery and maybe the best coffee shop culture in Laos - and bitches nomads loooove a good flat white. LP seems to be catching on: there's already one coworking space and one cafe labelled as a cowork cafe. !
