Strolling Jim finish photo- Laz wasn't there but Steve and narish were there! Our finisher photographer was narish- they were awesome. The hills were relentless to say the least, it was so hot that I would have welcomed rain and looked for shadows to take some cover in. I will say I didn't puke, Even tho I did want too. The people were so nice and welcoming to us taking over and the aid stations were so awesome! Kids hosting them on their own with all the things. Pretzels were my jam. I used the last of my duwaltermelon tailwind😕 Training for hills in Wisconsin does you no justice here. I drank my weight plus some in water, ate all the salt tabs and a lot of bio freeze for my calf muscle that wanted to cramp up for the back half of 20 miles. I finished in 61st place overall, 13 the overall female finisher and 7th in my age bracket of 40-49. Not my best race but nothing prepared me for those hills. The Louisville Triple Crown of Running has come to a close. I had to DIG to even finish today but still manage to come away with a 54 second PR. Hit a wall around mile 3 of the 15k and around 3.5 stopped for a second to decide if I was going to push through or just turn back and walk back…I chose to push and the photo evidence is, well, telling of how I felt crossing the finish line. NEW PR (1:28:45): Took to the hills of Cary for the Hillstriders March Madness Half Marathon this morning! I treated this as a progression run starting at marathon pace and gradually increasing up to half marathon pace. I had enough left at the end for a 6:20 mile 13, and that was into some pretty brutal headwind. This is a PR in a true half AND a shocking second place age group finish. Good test for @thecarmelmarathon in a few weeks!

Today I raced the No Frills 5 mile in a new race kit! After I was no longer sponsored by Hoka I felt lost. I hadn’t been a “free agent” since 2012. It was a very strange feeling for me, which to many sounds silly. However for me I thrive off of being part of a team, and running for a purpose not only my own. So when @lori_borer of @fleetfeetomaha.legacy found out she reached out to me. She is our local @fleetfeetsports owner and has a huge influence and passion in and for our running community. I was so thrilled by this opportunity. She and her staff have been helping me transition into new shoes and finding the perfect brand and fit for me. SWIPE: Year-in-sport, Spotify-wrapped style 😎 2,300 miles over 355 hours on 270 active days. In a year of transition and upheaval, running became something that I could focus on. That kept me grounded. That was a constant. The work paid off: Going from 3:17, to 3:08, to 3:03, to 3:01 and I’m heading into 2024 knocking on the door of a sub-3 hour marathon. I’ve said it many times, but I’m so grateful for the incredible running community I’ve connected with in Chicago and beyond. Thanks for pushing and encouraging me! 🚨 NEW PR (3:03:25) 🚨 Not more than two short years ago, I ran a 4:07 at the Chicago Marathon. I half-assed my way through a training plan I found online, I ate like shit, and I drank a LOT. Running was a means to an end, a way to “stay in shape” even though I was everything but in shape. Today, I made a very real attempt at qualifying for the Boston Marathon. And while I came up short, I’m celebrating the fact that this was even a possibility for me. Boston went from being a pipe dream, an unrealistic goal that’s now very much within my reach. Those of you who know me know that this has not been an easy summer. After my life was turned on its head a couple months ago, I considered punting on this goal for 2023 and deferring to next year. I’m really, really glad that I stuck with it. Next month, God willing, I’ll celebrate 18 months of sobriety. None of this would have been possible if I were still drinking. Thank you to everyone that’s played a role in my recovery. And thank you to my family, coaches, and friends. I love you all ❤️ Running changes everything. And the journey continues…
Riding the high from my PR at the @zeiglerkalamazoomarathon in April, I signed up for Last Chance BQ.2. Several weeks and hundreds of miles later, and tomorrow is finally the day. Regardless of the outcome, I’m grateful that this has become even a possibility for me. In a little over a year, Boston has gone from being beyond my level of comprehension to a very reachable goal. I wouldn’t change a thing about my training and feel rested and ready going into it. LFG!!!!!
