Just finished! Yes, the first to be completed of the several “in the works” necklaces I shared with you last week is the NEW Elena Necklace, a lavish piece which, with its intense Italian “tricolore” colours, really makes me think of sunny Mediterranean climes. It also makes me think “Eat your veggies” but I leave it up to you to determine why that might be.🇮🇹🫑🌶️ . For this piece I have combined one of my favourite stones - Queensland chrysoprase - with three different shades of precious Mediterranean coral, AAA Grade freshwater pearls and 14 and 18k gold filled, otherwise known as rolled gold.🪸🌿 . As some of you will be aware, due to over exploitation, Mediterranean red corals are internationally recognised as threatened species. As a result, except for six of the coral beads I bought from a reputable dealer in Tunis with legal sources, the remainder are vintage, salvaged from old, broken necklaces. Interestingly, one of these came from Ukraine where Mediterranean coral has long been used in traditional jewellery.🪸 . To complete the preciousness of this piece, the necklace is hand knotted on specially hand-dyed silk cord. It took me ages to source this material and I certainly believe it was worth the wait. Needless to say, I hope you do too. At a generous 1 metre/39.43 inches in length, it is an immensely versatile piece.🪸🌿 .
