Friday @rmitchelleats and I had the honor of taking the Chefscholar dinner to @thegibbesmuseum as a part of Art Charleston. The dinner was called Freshly Foraged. I thought it was time to introduce your hostess and housekeeper. Julie (on the right) has been cleaning Finn House for a few years. A couple of years ago, she set up her own housekeeping business. She loves decorating the place with soft toys, throws and pillows, which you may have spotted if you have been to stay. It is she who adds the vases of flora, depending on the season - wildflowers in the summer, gourds in the fall, and pine cones in the winter. She really loves Finn House, as in her words, it reminds her of her parent's old cabin in the northwoods. I couldn't ask for a better housekeeper. I truly fell in love with Finn House the first time I came in 1975 - I was eight and brought by my grandmother and father. My grandma was Robert Pack's younger daughter. My love has never diminished and so it is that I run the administrative side and take your bookings. My role also includes decorating, (I spent the day yesterday repainting the hall). Ok. I have lots to unpack. (Pun not intended. IYKYK) The only way I can describe this book is by comparing it to when you have a creative writing exam in school; you start off really strong, your writing is neat and you know what the start and the middle of your story will be. You’ll think of the ending when you come to it. You look at the clock and you have 10 minutes left: you’re running out of time, your handwriting manifests into a scribble, and you finish the last page with ‘and then they woke up - it was just a dream’. Having loved The Good Samaritan, I was geared up for another cracker of a thriller from John Marrs. It started off strong and I was convinced we had a five star read on our hands - only to be let down in the last few chapters. Finn was (let’s be real) a giant cu🤬nt, Mia is incredibly unlikeable, Dave and Debbie are both absolute weapons and Sonny? I love Sonny, I hope he will never encounter such desperate circumstances when he grows up. Will I continue to read more of JMs work? Absolutely! Will I recommend this book to others? Even when there was the 'AHA!' moments, that wasn't the end, it kept going! 😂 This was my third book by John and I swear they just keep getting better! I can't wait to pick up another! 💙

Erm, WOW. This book blew me away, but I don't know why actually as I've loved every other Marrs book that I've read. This was so thrilling, so gripping, and I didn't want to put it down! I finished it yesterday but I actually can't stop thinking about it (even though I'm loving my next read too). Meshing the past and the present and a few different perspectives, this was the perfect amount of everything. Mixed media throughout helped to add to the tension and it was just a constant guessing game. It didn't get boring at any point and I was just so engrossed. This might be the perfect thriller... Readalong Review📚 5⭐️ ‘Keep it in the Family’ by @johnmarrs.author is a dark and twisted thriller filled with so many plot twists, you don’t know where you’ll end up!! I was absolutely hooked from the get go and after being stuck in a reading slump, it felt good to become fixated straight away. I thoroughly enjoyed the variety of povs; especially the unnamed character from years prior. Although for me personally, I felt I was able to guess a lot of what was going to happen, I still thoroughly enjoyed the book - and was extremely satisfied with the ending, which very rarely happens for me. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ "Keep It In The Family" by John Marrs Normally I'd be immediately out when I realized the type of victimology involved (see trigger warning below) but I'm really glad I gave this book a chance. While still definitely "messed up", the content wasn't graphic thankfully. This novel is well written and maintains a steady pace throughout. To be fully transparent, I was able to predict some of the twists before they were revealed, but even those were still satisfying to see come to light. I was delighted to find that there were still several twists I definitely didn't see coming. When you are a true crime enthusiast and psychological thriller junkie like myself, it can be difficult to be surprised anymore. Definitely recommend! 4.5 stars P.S. [ad/gifted] Keep It In The Family by John Marrs - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ John Marrs is just fantastic. I know before I go into one of his books that I am about to be blown away. Keep It In The Family follows Finn and his wife Mia. Finn's parents Debbie and Dave have just purchased an old house that is in need of renovation but Mia thinks it is the perfect family home for her, Finn and their unborn child. Debbie definitely gives overbearing mother-in-law vibes and has a high dislike of Mia, thinking she is not the right match for her son. Dave also has his own issues including a problem with alcohol. Whilst renovating the house, they find old suitcases in the attic and are distraught to find skeletal remains of children inside. Obviously the police get involved but Mia then goes on her own hunt. Is she getting too close? I don't want to give too much away with regards to the plot as you really should go in blind. Marrs weaves this story perfectly together and with the use of mixed media such as newspaper reports and television documentary transcripts, it really adds to the depth of the story. I didn't want to put this book down! Then the next twist happens, and the next, and the next AND THE NEXT… by the time I thought I’d got a handle on things I was car sick and somewhat dumbstruck. You know sometimes you read a book that has too many plot twists and you become so overwhelmed that you’re ready to quit at the whiff of another. This book WAS NOT IT. The twists and turns were so well woven into the fabric of the story that I was in it for the long haul. A definite must read for your 2024 TBR! . 🩶 BOOK REVIEW 🩶 “Keep It In The Family” By John Marrs. Genre: Psychological Thriller. Pages: 381. My Rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Well… what the chapter 39… I’m a bit lost for words with this one! I felt dizzy with all the twists, turns and revelations! What a book, can’t stop thinking about this one! I really enjoyed reading the multiple different POV’s in the book and felt that we really got to understand each persons twisted mind (which I felt every one of them was a bit twisted) and the reasoning behind their choices in life. I trusted no one and suspected everyone! Trying my best not to give away any spoilers but I think some of the twists I predicted but then when it was revealed it was so much worse than expected. Some chapters I was left with my jaw hitting the floor and actually saying ohhhh out loud. My husband asked me a few times and I’ve told him I can’t tell him because I want him to read it next so we can talk about it! The ending was… oh my… sad/shocking/disgusting! I don’t know how I feel. Definitely feel that John could bring us a sequel to this book though!? Another fantastically twisted John Marrs book! I have now read 3 of his books and can’t wait to read more! 😱WHAT A BOOK!😱 This is the first book I’ve read by @johnmarrs.author and I’m telling you now it won’t be my last. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This book is an extremely dark and twisted thriller, which had me HOOKED the whole way through. We meet Mia and Finn who have just bought a run down, derelict house via an auction… intending to fix it up and turn it into their dream home. With funds dwindling away, to Mia’s surprise she finds out she’s pregnant, but they can make it work. Whilst removing wallpaper in their soon to be nursery, Mia discovers something unnerving… leading them to explore the attic. What they find is definitely not for the faint hearted. Their beautiful baby boy arrives, which is meant to bring joy into the lives of those around him, but with Mia’s obsession to the horrendous acts that have taken place in her home, she sets out to uncover the truth, calling into question those closest to her. What a phenomenal book! John Marrs has become my auto buy author now. With its disturbing twists and turns and a tense atmosphere, this book captured me, I was completely absorbed in the story. After a couple move into a new home & finds a message scratched into the wall, a mystery unfolds of bodies found in their attic. Book Review Time!!! A must read by @johnmarrs.author 4/5 ⭐ If you like mystery, murder, different POV's and some plot twists then definitely pick this book up. Very well written plot and story. I love that the chapters were short and easy to flow through. It's been a while since I read a book with some language and slang I wasn't familiar with but it definitely added to the story. This book has one of my favorite elements, Just when you thought you knew what was going on....BAM plot twist! Can't get any better than that. I was a little thrown back at ***spoiler alert*** the fact that Finn decided to continue the family "tradition" but I guess that's why the title is called "keep it in the family" but I will often wonder how I would have felt had he not taken his son and started the tradition himself. All in all a great read please do yourself a favor and get on it! Friday Greetings! Last year June I received a large valuation lot and in there was this tarnished, vintage 1980s pearl enhancer pendant set with a #cabuchonsapphire and #channelsetdiamonds. In March this year my client brought it back to me and asked for it to be made into a ring. She wanted to make it look bigger so an extra outer rim was added in matching 18ct yellow gold.
