The Fine Art Photographer produces silver photographs using darkroom techniques and processes. Nicholas Winter also manipulates Polaroids and creates photographic objects. Based in Basel, Switzerland since 2002, Nicolas Winter’s works have been shown in Europe and are part of private collections. • Fragility is a common thread in all of Nicholas Winter’s artistic research. The artist observes and examines things hidden from the surface at first glance. The photographer defines fragility by a « constant space »: the space between reality and what could or should be. Within this brittle state, this layer, lies the potential to become aware of vulnerability, the impermanence of existence. Asha the Mexican Gray Wolf Asha has twice journeyed from Arizona to northern New Mexico. Her journeys inspired me to make this art doll sculpture in her honor. I embroidered a map of the Valle Caldera on her neck because she visited there in December 2023 all the way from Arizona. I used vintage New Mexico magazine images to collage her body. I finished and framed this new piece today, just in time for my Featured Artist show “Collections” in Sandstone Gallery, Laguna Beach, running May 1 - June 3. This is “Orange Crush”.
