Anyone that knows me, will also know that I am an avid Liverpool FC fan and have been for over 35 years. You will also know that my country of origin is Palestine, from the great City of Gaza to be precise… What might surprise you, is that my love for my favourite football team (LFC) and my beloved home city (Gaza), is that both have something in common. What might that be, I hear you ask? The clue is in the image I have shared… Well, if you haven’t guessed it yet then today you will learn something new from a short history lesson! The symbol of Gaza Municipality and the emblem/badge of Liverpool FC is the Phoenix (or the Liver Bird) - a legendary bird. And legend says that when the hour of death approaches, the phoenix sets out to build a nest among the trees, then sets fire to itself and when it eventually turns into ashes, it will rise again stronger and more enduring. From history, this bird i.e. the #pheonix represents the multiple rebirths of Gaza on the same site over the past 5,000 years. Being one of the oldest cities in the world and situated on a strategic location on the trade routes, Gaza represents the triumph of life over death, as well as the ability to overcome adversity and rise again and again. “Out of suffering have emerged the strongest souls; the most massive characters are seared with scars.” — Khalil Gibran ‎Gaza… always yearning for immortality, resistant to death, rising from its ashes… It does not die and it will not fall inshallah (God willing). From taking photos in front of the Shankly gates, to walking around the neighborhood finding all the murals, this was an absolute trip highlight. On this day in 2016, the late excellent record producer, arranger, composer, conductor, pianist, keyboardist, oboe player and co-author of his memoir “All You News is Ears”, “Summer of Love: The Making of Sgt Pepper” and his illustrated autobiography “Playback” who had a career spanning more than six decades in music, film, television and live performances, beginning with becoming the head of EMI’s Parlophone, producing comedy and novelty records with artists such as Peter Ustinov, Anthony Hopkins, Peter Sellers, Spike Milligan and Bernard Cribbins, helping to popularise the Merseybeat sound through his working relationship with Brian Epstein and Liverpool music acts in the early-mid 1960s and forming his production company Associated Independent Recordings and is best known for his extensive work with The Beatles, his formal music expertise and interest in novel recording practices complimenting their rudimentary musical education and relentless quest for new musical sounds to record, writing and performing most of their orchestral arrangements and instrumentation and thus shaping their innovative sound besides collaborating with numerous other artists including Ultravox, Paul McCartney, Wings, Ringo Starr, Gerry and the Pacemakers, Kate Bush, Shirley Bassey, Stevie Wonder, Cilla Black, Michael Jackson, Celine Dion, Elton John, America, Jeff Beck, Mahavishnu Orchestra and his son Giles Martin, contributing to television documentaries, holding numerous senior executive roles at media companies and contributing to a wide range of charitable causes including The Prince’s Trust and Montserrat, the influential man commonly referred to as the “Fifth Beatle”, George Martin, sadly passed away. Both hits were written by Mitch Murray. How Do You Do It? had been recorded by The Beatles during the Love Me Do sessions the previous September, but the decision was taken to go with the Lennon/McCartney original and, given Murray’s insistence the song only be considered for A-side release, the recording remained under vault until the Anthology releases.
