Today's Get to know ME Monday post is inspired by Earth Day, which is today.๐Growing up, you'd catch me outside all the time, even now. I find that to be when I am most happy, being outside, hiking, kayaking, gardening, and now watching Bailey discover the earth. Throughout school, science classes were always so interesting and as I took my schooling career in a scientific direction, I grew even more intrigued.๐คMicrobiology and chemistry are my favorite. To me those classes both take an evolutionary approach to achieving the earths health and wellness. Without them we wouldn't be where we are now on this planet. Both topics are so diverse in how they are used in understanding life on earth between humans and our environment. They help with advances in medicine and healthcare, agriculture, food safety and production, environmental conversation and protection, and technological innovations. ๐ฌ๐งช๐งซ Some ways we can observe Earth Day and do our part to help our planet are support and use recycling programs in your community, volunteer to participate in a park clean-up, carpool when possible, and refurbish old items to make them new again. There are so many small things that we can contribute that can make a big impact for the future. Iโm going to try something new. Get to know me Monday! Here goes! Youโre not gonna find a wide variety of book reviews on my Instagram profile. I donโt tend to read what everyone else is reading and I donโt often tend to like what everyone else is reading. Iโm also very slow in that I no longer dedicate a lot of time to sit and read. Iโm a great reader and Iโve always read many books a year. In my youth, I would probably read many books a month, but those were simpler times. I do have my favorite books, however, and they are from two completely different genres. The top shelf you see in this photo is filled with my favorite fantasy author: @reneeduganwriting. The second shelf is filled with my favorite inspirational, romantic suspense author: Dee Henderson. These books are always on my mind for a reread. I havenโt reread them all yet. But I will. Unfortunately, as Iโm supposed to be keeping up with the publishing world and Iโm a slow reader, I canโt devote a lot of time to favorites. The struggle is real because I also donโt like whatโs necessarily popular in pub right now. Horror and thrillers?? No thanks. A day off from school = Girl Scout work/meeting, orthodontist appointment๐ฆท, eye doctor appointment, prep for out-of-town event, and homework! Thank goodness for the extra hour from this weekend ๐ I know we all have days like this; ones that are packed to the brim with so much! It feels great to have everything accomplished at the end of the day! Having a game plan at the beginning of the day definitely helps you get everything done! I am so grateful to be able to do all the things I do and lucky enough to have the support system I need to get it done! I learned at an early age that I love organization; I thrive on it! Although itโs important to stay fixable, itโs also important to prioritize and maintain routine and structure. Although, a little bit of chaos is fine too!! My sister and I would always call and order the free information tapes (those would be VHS cassettes ๐คฃ) from the commercials, and I would study them until I memorized them. I created a proposal then dazzled them with my knowledge and excitement... and they decided we would finally visit The Happiest Place On Earth! ๐๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ kid wants to visit a Disney Destination... GET TO KNOW ME MONDAY: Whatโs up Betas!!! Iโm coming at you with another get to know me Monday; school edition ๐ I am a Sophomore at Riverview Opportunity Center (ROC), but that only scratches the surface! I attend a program in my county called Bullitt Advanced Math and Science (BAMS), which is hosted at ROC. BAMS is an advanced, accelerated STEM program where I will graduate high school with an associates degree. Here is a little bit about BAMSโฆ 1. BAMS was established in 2009 to give high ability learners opportunities outside of the typical classroom as a dual credit program. 2. BAMS is partnered with Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest where students get experience of exciting hands-on scientific field research at Bernheim Forest bi-weekly, no matter what the weather conditions are (sunโ๏ธ, rain๐ง๏ธ, or snowโ๏ธ). 3. BAMS also works with GE Appliances where students conduct year-long engineering projects. Currently, the projects are focused to benefit Refuge for Women. 4. BAMS partners with Jefferson Community and Technical College where students attend their Junior and Senior years for ๐! To get into the Bullitt Advanced Math and Science program, I had to go through a rigorous application process. I was one of 26 students accepted into BAMS Cohort 13 out of numerous applicants across the county. Even with a challenging course load of nine classes per semester and being actively involved with extracurricular activities, I have been able to keep a 4.0 GPA during my high school career thus far. If BAMS/ROC does not have a particularly club or sport then I can participate in those things through my home high school. My home high school is Bullitt East. Go Chargers!!! I am so grateful that I was accepted into the BAMS program. It has given me the amazing opportunity to help achieve my potential as a learner and as a person. I was 10, and sported a Lion King shirt (I was obsessed!), fluffy hair, and a unibrow thanks to my Greek heritage. We explored Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios, which was called MGM Studios back then. Right away I felt a strong connection to Walt Disney World and all of its magic. ๐๐ผ The last time I visited a Disney park was last just month. I explored all 4 of the parks... and it felt just like my first time there. The magic never fades! (My hair still also gets very fluffy in Florida!) How about you? GET TO KNOW ME MONDAY: Hey Betas!!! Coming at you with another get to know me Monday ๐ญ I love musicals; in the theatre or on the screen!!! I started going to the theater when I was very young. It all started with going to the Cincinnati Childrenโs Theater with my cousins. I have been blessed to be able to enjoy musicals with my family and friends. Some musicals hold a special place in my heart ๐ซถ๐ป Mamma Mia is a staple for movie night with my mom! I got to see Fiddler on the Roof live with my family, which way my grandfatherโs favorite movie! And I just recently saw Wicked with my Girl Scout troop! Fun fact, I can quote about 98% of the lyrics to Hamilton! โI am not throwing away my shot!!โ One might ask, how do you learn all the words to an entire musical? Well, it starts by listening to the sound track while on a kayaking trip. Then, once it is released on Disney+, watching it on repeat ๐! And of course, seeing the Broadway musical live! In DC, after a ridiculous day of traveling, I got to see the Lion King in the Kennedy Center. In New York City, I saw Harry Potter and the Cursed Child; combining my love for theater and good old Harry Potter! My knowledge of musicals has come in handy throughout the years! During Quick Recall in Academic Team, I always get super excited when I can use my knowledge of musicals to gain our team a point! Being on Broadway would be my dream career! Sadly, I was not gifted with a beautiful singing voice haha๐ค I have a voice that is best left to the shower! Overall, musical theater can be a fun and engaging activity that provides people with many benefits, including opportunities to develop musical abilities, creativity, confidence, teamwork skills, self-expression, memory and focus, and a sense of community. Music can make us nostalgic, change our mood, or even better connect us to emotions inside ourselves. GET TO KNOW ME MONDAY: Hey Betas!!! Hope your week is off to a great start!!! As promised, here is another #gettoknowmemonday So, I donโt have a biological sister. For the first 5 years of my life, I ask my mom for a sister all the time. But when I joined Girl Scouts in kindergarten, I gained a bunch of sisters, so I have sisters all over the globe ๐ and some right in my hometown!! One of the most important messages that has been instilled in me through Girl Scouts is to leave the world better than I found it. It started with camping and we were told to leave natural as we found it. When using an indoor spaces, I have also been taught to leave the space cleaner than I found it. My goal in life is to leave the world better than I found it! This has become the motto I strive to live by!!! Through Girl Scouts, I have learned the importance of nature, safety, service, leadership, teamwork, business skill, and so much more! In my free time, I enjoy doing things like camping, hiking, kayaking, and fishing. In my nearly 11 years in Girl Scouts, I have participated in many service projects, including Scouting for Food, animal shelter drives, hygiene product drives and book drives. I have also received my Bronze and Silver Awards, two of the three highest awards you can earn in Girl Scouts. Both of these Awards are high-level service-based projects. Girl Scouts has been such an influential experience in my life. It has helped shape me into the hard working, passionate person I am today. Finally, Girl Scouts is not the only place where I find sisters! Through Beta, I have also found a family! All of these skills I have gained from Girl Scouts have STRENGTHENED me as a Beta. Hey! Happy Monday! I think I'm going to try to get back to my Get To Know Me Monday posts! I hope you enjoy! I taught myself to crochet 10 years ago. I grabbed some hooks, some yarn, a book, watched some YouTube and got to work! My first attempt was not good, not knowing anything I had bought cotton yarn and it was so stiff and unforgiving. So back to the store to get acrylic yarn. Much easier to work with. My first swatches were just learning the different stitches and of course I had to do blue and green as they were the kids fave colours at the time. After the swatches the kiddos asked me to make sleeping bags for their Super Mario stuffies. They turned out well! I then attempted a hat! Ha! I didn't do a gauge test first. Big mistake! The hat meant for my 3 year old was too small for a newborn! Apparently when I first started I crocheted really tightly! I have gone through many different eras of crochet in my 10 years. I figured out really quickly I prefer to crochet projects that I can start and finish within an hour. The soap savers are perfect for that! Happy Monday! Get to Know Me Monday! At the legitimate risk of oversharing, I am a recovering binge drinker. What does that have to do with voting? Most of you know I was in the Navy for five years, and as someone who volunteered to protect the rights of our citizens, the most sacred to me personally is the right to vote. In 2010 I was arrested for DUI in Arizona. Thereโs a ton of intersectionality between that, the next couple years of my not being able to drive, and finishing up my education at ASU in urban planning that has guided me into being a walkability/safe streets/transit advocate. One of the byproducts of that arrest in 2010 however was an additional charge where the arresting officer alleged that I ran from the cops and they slapped me with a felony. I was terrified that having a felony on my record would restrict me from voting in future elections. Despite my willingness to accept responsibility for the DUI, I fought my charges for almost a year to plea down to a misdemeanor. Upon completion of my probation, that was cemented and my right to vote was never impacted. Since turning 18, Iโve never not voted by mail or absentee ballot. And now with children, I get to share this process with them. Thank you Arielle for helping me vote this afternoon, and thank you to all the legislators and attorneys who fight for expanded voting rights, and fight to restore the right to vote for those the government has taken away. #gettoknowmemonday So Iโve been struggling with weight loss and eating disorders for a very long time and as my partner says, accepting myself is crucial but hard for me as I begin a new tweak to my daily eating and workouts. I became a vegan in 2015 and loved it but had trouble after getting pregnant and my body became sick after birth as well with breastfeeding and needing more protein intake so I took a step back and became a vegetarian/mostly dairy free. So here I am beginning a new chapter to try carb cycling and HIIT workouts 3x a week rather than everyday. I hope I have some luck. If youโve ever tried this and have good tips please leave me a comment. Especially if you have any good high or low carb vegetarian meals. Iโd be appreciative. Over the years I have started collecting plants to put both inside and outside my house. Idk about you but to me, live plants give a home such a good vibe. For the most part I have a pretty green thumb and keep my plants alive and thriving. Get to know me Monday! I am a huge hockey fan! When I visited Montreal in 2009, I wasnโt, but I figured since I was there I would experience something important to the locals. I went to a Canadiens game and fell in love! The person behind me didnโt speak English so we both spoke broken Spanish throughout the game as she taught me some basics. When I got back home to Arizona I bought Coyotes season tickets! The next season I met my wife, @cookingwiththeaverys at a Coyotes playoff game. She was there with a mutual friend and we were able to meet up, went for drinks afterward, and we started dating soon after. Since then weโve had NHL tickets in Denver and now here in Seattle and weโre both bought into the Kraken. In January 2022 I took an Adult Learn to Play class. I was so scared to start playing hockey because I had no idea how to stop on the ice and thought Iโd make a fool of myself or worse, hurt someone. I was placed on a team and now weโve been mostly intact since then. We play in the #KrakenHockeyLeague as the #FightingClams! Both of my girls have been on skates already and we love to take the 1 Line up to Northgate to skate at the Kraken Community Iceplex. The hockey community is very tight knit and itโs still fairly small here in Seattle. But after playing baseball all my life, this has been a great way to stay active in a different way after I broke my ankle and nose playing baseball. Who is Bailey in addition to being Miss North Carolina? #gettoknowmemonday I thought it would be fun in the weeks leading up to Internationals to do a longer get to know me segment on this page and show who I am with and without the crown! I have always been dedicated to being authentically me and Iโm the same Bailey with and without the crown. So, todayโs fun fact is that I have been cheering for almost 10 years. For the last two years I have been a member of the Wake Forest University Gold Cheerleading team and cheered on the demon deacons at all the home football games, volleyball, women basketball, some mens basketball, and some mens baseball (which our team is ranked number one in the country right now so GO DEACS). For this upcoming year, I will be a member of the Coed Cheerleading team. I will be cheering for football games, mens basketball games, and some women basketball games. I will also get the opportunity to travel with the teams and compete at UCA nationals in Orlando! I am so proud to cheer on the deals and I adore my amazing university. No matter how far I go or how old I get, I will always be a wake forest cheerleader!

I stayed mostly in one spot so I know that Iโll be going back to explore this beautiful country. Since I went on a yoga retreat there was lots of yoga but also found time to go surfing, horseback riding, dance salsa, and of course explore the beautiful town of Nosara! Itโs another beautiful Monday morning here is Florida! You know what time it is, #MelissaMonday Hereโs a fun fact about me, before I purchased my home I lived in a 40 foot RV ๐๐๐ป I live in the motor home for four years with my fiancรฉ and honestly I really enjoyed it. It taught me to live minimally and not acquire a lot of things. We took it on a few trips but not nearly as many as I wish we did because itโs tough to do when you both work full time. The RV life was fun and I will totally do it again when I retire and have more time to travel. I've been using Instagram for a while, but as we begin this new year I thought it's time to make a friendly re- introduction. I want to know you better and give insight into who I am and my business. I'm a Georgia native as I was born and grew up in a town about 80 miles south of Atlanta. It's a fairly small and quaint town and offered so much to growing families back in the day. #gettoknowmemonday I have tried for years to get Kenny more comfortable in the water but he just is really not happy with it all. He has a life jacket that he wears when on a boat just in case, which he doesnโt mind. I have gotten him a baby pool, let him soak in a bath and tired countless other things to make him more comfortable. My goal is that he doesnโt freak out if he were to ever fall in the water accidentally. ๐๐พโฑ๐โ๏ธDo your pups enjoy the water?

Get to know me Monday! My sport of choice growing up was fastball. In total I think I played for about 10 years, and in all honestly I don't know why I ever stopped playing. I played a variety of positions over the years but the one that stole my heart was left field. Tracking fly balls was a talent that I honed, and never wanting to be in the spotlight, covering the infield and doing the work when the ball came my way just made sense. Fastball was also the place that drove me to want to seek out a career in sport performance and return to play. At some point in time I was a power hitter. I could CRUSH the ball. I wound up with a recurrent quadriceps strain that didn't go away for a season. By the end of the season I couldn't run, I couldn't transfer weight properly while batting, I didn't get to play at provincials and I never figured out how to move my weight properly into the ball again. I was a single base hitter for the rest of my career. Sometimes I think about where I could have been if I had known that there are people like athletic therapists who focus on sport specific return to play. I wonder if I would have been able to keep that affinity for batting. All of that doesn't really matter anymore, but I am so happy that I can give back to young athletes as a therapist and help to keep them in the game. I am so thankful I was able to work at the CWFA tournament this past weekend, and I hope to keep giving back to the ball community as the years go on. Diamond sports are a lifelong passion of mine.
