You may (or may not) have noticed that I've been pretty quiet on here for a while. I've been protecting my overly fragile heart from the scattergun of emotions it feels when I scroll through my feed. I'll be posting again soon as I have a new book coming out but I wanted to do it with this honest asterisk. Rejections are rife in my writing world right now. Sometimes it feels very sucky. Sometimes it sends my mood down through our rat-infested floorboards. Sometimes it sends my anxiety through the roof...where there are also creatures and quite possibly a Hippopotamus. So this post is to recognise that my writing life is not a series of 'We love it. Here's another contract' conversations. Far from it. 3 weeks until Chattanooga 70.3! Went up to Clermont this past weekend with the purpose of getting in more hill training and especially to work on my bike handling skills with descending😅 I wanted to keep working on the skills I had learned in Utah 2 weeks ago. With Clermont, my focus was to work on being in aero with the descents whereas in Utah, I was working to simply not be on the brakes. (Clermont, I can see the bottom of the hill and Utah, I can’t🤪). Managed to hit 34.6 mph in aero today (I was screaming with fear on the inside but calmed myself to make it through😬). Another step in working to overcome my fear of descents on the bike. And to think, 3 years ago I was crying the first time I went to Clermont because I was so afraid of the downhills. I got a bit of positive news yesterday. During my colonoscopy on Thursday they took some biopsies of the inflamed areas of my colon/rectum to test for CMV (Cytomegalovirus) and C.Diff. They actually thought it wasn't very likely I'd test positive for either one, but turns out I did. The GI team was notified on Friday by the lab that at first glances the tissue looked like it could be infected with CMV, but that they wouldn't be able to confirm the positive results, along with how much of the inflammation was caused by CMV, until tomorrow afternoon at the earliest. I've actually had CMV before, but think this round was caused by the immunosuppressant medications I've been on. CMV basically just mimics and exacerbates Crohns symptoms so they definitely think it has been contributing to the inflammation on some level. The GI team reached out to the Infectious Disease team and decided to start treating the CMV with two bags of IV Antivirals a day in addition to the IV steroid injections. Once they start to see some kind of an improvement in my symptoms they'll consider transitioning me to oral antiviral and steroid medications in preparation of being discharged. Once home, my GI doc and I will start a medication to treat the Crohns, start tapering me off the oral steroids, then once off the steroids they'll continue to treat me with oral antivirals until I test negative for CMV and am no longer experiencing symptoms. This is great news because it shows there's a treatable source of the inflammation in my rectum/colon besides just uncontrollable Crohns Disease. And the more options we have, the longer we can avoid considering an Ostomy. In addition to this news lifting my spirits, I've had soul fueling visits from: *Jeff, Hilary, and Huxley Rowberry and big brother Gabe Farley Friday night... I had been missing my bestie and the boys REAL bad! *My Mom showing up Every. Single. Day. keeping me company for hours at a time, and usually with a Diet Coke in hand 😁 *Sara Jensen, and cute Janey (wearing a Bingo shirt from the TV show Bluey) sending me the sweetest most encouraging video ever! Today marks the 28th day of my journey in keeping it real with myself, and the theme that resonates profoundly is #CONTROL. . I’ve come to realize that no matter how hard I try, I can’t force outcomes, rush progress, or prevent every obstacle along the way. Instead of grappling for control, I’m learning the art of letting go. Trusting the process means relinquishing the illusion of control and embracing the ebb and flow of life’s unpredictable currents. . Today, I surrender to the wisdom of accepting what I can’t change and finding peace in the midst of uncertainty. And as a bonus lesson, I’ve made peace with my gray hair, realizing I can’t control them either! What survival-mode looks like on a solo-Sunday with the girls… 1-Taking the girls for a playdate in the morning, despite barely wanting to get out of bed. 2-Letting Sofia watch a show while Lidia napped so I could prepare lunchboxes for tomorrow. 3-Including frozen pizza as part of said lunchboxes, having no energy or drive to make anything else. Putting in a banana instead of apples since this wouldn’t involve the extra peeling, cutting, slicing. 4-Making sandwiches for lunch (after the girls already had sandwiches for breakfast), for the same reason. 5-Wrapping another gift for yet another birthday. 6-Going to said birthday, watching the girls have a blast. 7-Putting on a smile and making sure the girls have a good time. 8-Staring at Lidia’s pure joy eating an ice-lolly. 9-Crashing at the end of the day, letting all the feelings flood out. #reallife #momlife #girlmom #momoftwo #sunday #survivalmode #keepingitreal

Perception v.reality I’m trying to keep things as real as possible on here. So I won’t shy away from the fact it’s Sunday, I’m trying to cook a roast dinner, but I also need to get some work done!
