This is what I like the most about busking: these magic moments when people passing by stop and notice there's something going on. In that moment, they stop thinking about appointments, plans, responsibilities, tasks, worries or pain. They are just there, living that very intense moment, feeling free, enjoying life and thinking, what a wonderful world 🤎. Although I can't always look at them, I feel their presence and there's a fire growing inside of me, giving me tons of energy and inspiration to express deep emotions through the music. For me, this is such a grateful thing. Very exciting new show on sale - we welcome Welsh experimental musician Rhodri Davies to Oxford on Thurs 20th June at Fusion Arts’ 95 Gloucester Green space! Rhodri is immersed in the worlds of improvisation, musical experimentation, composition and contemporary classical performance. He plays harp, electric harp, live-electronics and builds wind, water, ice, dry ice and fire harp installations and has released seven solo albums. His regular groups include: HEN OGLEDD, Cranc, Common Objects and a duo with John Butcher. He delighted in lockdown by playing an immense remOHte Community show for us on Instagram and painted a beautiful poster for it to boot! For the last twelve years Davies has been closely associated with the pioneering composer Eliane Radigue performing eighteen of her pieces. She composed OCCAM I for Davies in 2011, the first in an ongoing series of solo and ensemble pieces for individual instrumentalists in which a performer’s personal performance technique and particular relationship to their instrument function as the compositional material of the piece. New pieces for solo harp have also been composed for him by: Christian Wolff, Carole Finer, Philip Corner, Phill Niblock, Ben Patterson, Alison Knowles, Mieko Shiomi and Yasunao Tone. We're pretty stoked about this...world renowned KORA duet featuring MADOU SIDIKI DIABATÉ and SALIF BAMAKORA coming to The Extended Play Sessions Fallout Shelter on Saturday July 13! Madou is a 71st generation KORA master...think about that! Seventy One generations of mastery on this ancient West African instrument!! The kora is built from gourd, cut in half and covered with cow skin to make a resonator with a long hardwood neck. The skin is supported by two handles that run underneath it. It has 21 strings, each of which plays a different note. These strings are supported by a notched, double free-standing bridge. The kora doesn't fit into any one category of musical instrument, but rather several, and must be classified as a "double-bridge-harp-lute." This is some of the most beautiful and mesmerizing music I've ever heard...a mix of flamenco jazz and delta blues played by the two most celebrated masters in the world. This is going to be pure magic at the Fallout Shelter! A while back I posted about digital vs paper music. Today Im thinking about digital vs physical CD? I'm finding more and more I'm gravitating towards wanting physical CDs and enjoy listening to a CD more than I do my digital music. Hard to say why - I just really like listening to a CD front to end. It's like seeing a whole concert uninterrupted as intended without bits of the story missing. The whole tactile experience adds so much. Like seeing the sea od stars in the artwork and pink CD here visually adds to the enjoyment when I listen. This is my latest CD for my collection, released last week by @laurenscottharp. I'm really enjoying it! My favourite at the moment is the title track , "Sea Of Stars" which really showcases the lever AND pedal harp. Are you digital music or physical CD fan or a bit of both?
