Happy Birthday to Marion Walter Jacobs, Little Walter. While Walter’s music might not be known to all these days, one listen to his classic sides from the early 1950s and it’s easy to realize that’s there’s hardly a single person alive today who doesn’t love a band or artist that was clearly influenced by this man from Louisiana, or at least love a band who was influenced by a band that was influenced by Little Walter. You can take college classes and watch documentaries about the rock and roll explosion of 1955, but Little Walter was exploding before that, his playing clearly not just inspiring other harmonica players but so many people playing other instruments, electric guitar for example. And no matter how good his harmonica playing, his blowing was always wrapped in the song, helping power it along, taking the spotlight but bringing the thing with him, all part of the locomotion, the song moving like a freight train and his playing like the whistle blowing. The world as we know it would be a completely different place without the influence of Little Walter. I just picked up this vintage Belden cable for my 1960s Shure 545S. I have a couple of xlr adapters but it’s tough to find these old 4 pin cables or even the connectors now. I actually prefer using them low Z with a line transformer so it’s easier to go through a PA or use for recording. This gives off Paul Butterfield vibes! Born May 1, 1930, Marion Walter Jacobs, better known as Little Walter, would go on to revolutionize harmonica playing in the world of #blues. Little Walter would produce 14 top-ten hits on the Billboard R&B charts in the 1950's including two number one hits. One of those, "Juke," is in fact the only harmonica instrumental to ever reach number one on the Billboard R&B chart. Sadly, Little Walter died at the age of 37 from a combination of alcoholism and a series of violent altercations. Little Walter was inducted into the #rockandrollhalloffame in 2008 and is in fact the only performer to be inducted solely as a harmonica player. Dave Alvin and Jimmie Dale Gilmore, “twin brothers from another mother” (LA Times), have unveiled “Southwest Chief,” the second advance track from their forthcoming album TexiCali (out June 21 via Yep Roc Records). An ode to Alvin’s time touring the country via ‘Roots on the Rails’ with fellow musicians, “Southwest Chief” awakens visions of prairie sunrises, the Mojave desert and the land of the Navajo. “We’d stack vintage cars on the back of an Amtrak train and play for the passengers,” says Alvin. “On the final tour in 2018, we were attached on the ride back from Chicago onto the legendary Southwest Chief.” Alvin began writing the track years ago with New England songwriter Bill Morrissey, and completed it after Morrissey’s passing: “Remembering my friend, Bill Morrissey / we were gonna write a song but that never came to be,” sings Alvin tenderly, backed by Gilmore on harmonica. I prossimi 3-4-5-11-12 maggio, presso il Teatro dello Spirito Santo di Torre Annunziata, andrà in scena un nuovo spettacolo teatrale dal titolo "Io vuless truvà pace". Con la regia di Maria Autiero e frutto dell'unione di tre giovani artisti del nostro territorio, tale spettacolo risulta essere conforme alla grande tradizione del teatro classico napoletano, ma, allo stesso tempo, ricco di caratteristiche innovative. Il gruppo è capitanato da Peppe Russo, giovane attore di Torre Annunziata, diplomato al Teatro Totò e attualmente studente presso laboratori e masterclass tra Roma, Napoli e Milano. L'altra protagonista, sempre di Torre Annunziata, è la giovane cantante ed attrice Martina Caso, laureata in Didattica della musica, vincitrice dell’ARS Music Festival, attualmente iscritta al secondo anno dell'accademia di cinema "La Ribalta" e studentessa in canto privato. La cornice musicale dello spettacolo è di Simone Pagano, autore delle musiche, giovane cantautore di Torre del Greco, semifinalista all'European Tour Music Fest (2016), 1° Premio al IV Concorso CET Scuola Autori Mogol (2018), attualmente impegnato anche in altri progetti di musica dal vivo. Uno spettacolo da non perdere, dunque, intenso, ricco di sentimento, passione e qualità.
