Haris Epaminonda offers an introspective space, laden with symbolism, in which past and present are melded together in a timeless continuum. Out of that experimentation came, for example, the Verde Luana marble version of Rosso’s Portinaia (Concierge), dating from 1883-84, created at Henraux using state-of-the-art 3D processing with input from gifted artisans. Manual skills and robotics, humanity and industrialization are recast through the prism of the imagination. In a time that seems to us to be increasingly divisive and uncertain, Epaminonda acts on the edges with subtle poetry, her compositions reminding us not only of the importance of the connection between different cultural traditions and forms of thinking, but also of the value and the qualities that possible new worlds can take on. “VOL. This handle was designed to feature two contrasting materials, one of which is now marble. The handle’s origins lie in a workshop organised by the long-standing German porcelain company Kober, which contacted Olivari for its technical know-how. “We were inspired by the Bauhaus,” say the designers. “We wanted simple, pure geometrical shapes that would work together as different materials. Technology was reduced to a bare minimum. Drawn brass was first combined with extruded porcelain, and then marble. The two are united in a way that flatters each constituent part.” La maniglia Bau, nata per esaltare il contrasto e la diversa qualità materiale, è ora realizzata in marmo. In origine la maniglia nasce da una ricerca promossa da Kober, un’azienda tedesca specializzata nella produzione di porcellana, che si è rivolta a Olivari per sperimentare l’uso innovativo della porcellana. “Ci siamo ispirati ai principi del Bauhaus”, affemano Nina Ruthe e David Antonin dello Studio Niruk. “Abbiamo pensato a forme semplici dalla geometria pura, che sfruttassero la sinergia fra due materiali. Anima e corpo | Flesh and soul “ “The idea for this exhibition was born almost jokingly, the ancient Henraux sawmill, with its unique lights and its walls showing all the signs of age, seemed to us the right place to ‘bring Michelangelo to Henraux, you and me!” So, in 2018, photographer Aurelio Amendola and Henraux president Paolo Carli brought to life an enlightening photographic project on the sculpture of Michelangelo Buonarroti, involving architect Mario Botta for the exhibition’s curation. The result of this project materialized in a sequence of thirty-two large black and white shots, aiming to create an original and engaging dialogue between the past and the present. “The black and white photographs by Aurelio Amendola, presented at the Henraux Sawmill in the Querceta facility, allowed Michelangelo’s figures to rediscover a friendly atmosphere. A true return to the motherland after wandering for centuries and astonishing other men, captivated by the beauty, talent, power, and grace of those stones where soul and body are one; living presences emerged from the surfaces smoothed by the artist’s creative ‘breath.’” (Mario Botta, 2018) Through a visual journey, we tell you the story of this collaboration, born in 2018 with the conception of the project signed by Mario Botta.
