The Jama Masjid, Champaner is a highly decorative structure with beautiful carvings of geometric motifs running in formal horizontal bands and arabesque designs on the pilasters and niches. There are instances of lotus flowers, sun, diamonds, vines, and lota carving too, which is a typical Hindu element. In addition to the carvings on the walls, the outer walls support beautifully carved oriel windows, which are in turn supported by immensely carved brackets. The carvings follow a similar pattern as that of other structures in Gujarat, thus delivering the notion of a regional style. The degree of finesse and workmanship is of great quality. This mosque looks like a finer interpretation of the Jama Masjid, Ahmedabad; which was constructed quite a few years earlier than the one in Champaner. 🇺🇸 Lions in Greece Studies have demonstrated the presence of lions in Southern Europe up until the 10th century. In Greece, however, they roamed the region maybe until the 4th century, even though this is not a certain assumption. In any case, fossils have been found and many authors such as Aristotle, Xenophon and Plinius gave precise accounts of the presence of lions in Greece. The reason behind their disappearance is not clear but human activity such as hunt and the very active use of lions in Roman amphitheaters might have been a factor in the decrease of their population. 🇫🇷Les lions en Grèce Des études ont démontré la présence de lions en Europe du Sud jusqu’au Xe siècle. Cependant, en Grèce, on estime leur présence jusqu’au IVe siècle bien que cela ne soit pas certain. ||A tryst with Amer Fort|| I went to Jaipur thinking that my trip would only be limited to attending the Jaipur Literature Festival, maybe exploring a cafe or two, buying some souvenirs and some shopping but... On the second day of the trip I woke up with a feeling that now that I am here I should explore and learn about the history, culture and heritage of this place that is actually famous worldwide and that is when I decided I need to take a detour and visit Amer Fort. On my way to the fort which was home to the Rajput Maharajas centuries back and is known for its architecture and artistic style I thought about one thing and that was what brings and attracts people towards these historical sites, these forts and palaces? Is it the magnificence, the beauty? Is it the fervour of love and the innate desire to see the world and delve into the past with your beloved and get some magical moments in these regal places? Is it the history and the stories of people who have been here before us? Is it just the need to capture the essence of these places and show them to the world? Maybe I found the answer, maybe I didn't and I will keep that between me and the fort but I will tell you something. Once I reached the fort and saw it standing there in all its glory, I was proud of myself for taking the decision to take a detour and visit this gorgeous fort. The sheer beauty of the fort held me in its grip and I took a good five minutes to take a good look at the fort. I entered the fort with one thought and that was, what I am going to witness today is not just another monument, another fort or another palace but was a lifestyle once. It represented something. I took soooo many photos today, on our way up to the Utah stateline. For now, I share this of MG taking a photo of the amazing Glen Canyon Dam. The dam build lost 18 brave skilled laborers from 1957-1961. The town of Page was created as an encampment for the dam builders in the late 1950s. Today, it is a scrappy community, thriving on tourism (Grand Canyon North Rim, Lake Powell, Antelope Canyon, Navajolands, Marble Canyon) and a whole lot of many denominational churches. The natural sights to behold in this part of the world are some of THE most incredible this side of the Mississippi! Wesley was a historian who worked closely with Carter G Woodson (the founder of Black history week which transformed into Black history month). He was the 3rd African American to receive a PHD in history right after WEB Dubois and Carter G Woodson. Although Mr. Wesley is not seen as a pioneer of African American history to the average person.
