~Country Life ~ While Feargal and I are sometimes at odds over how we decorate our home, there are some things we both love.. period style decor! When we built our home almost 16 years ago now, the style of it dictated a lot of the furnishings we bought. This hall stand, for example. It's no expensive piece but it just seems to fit in here. We've picked up a few bits to add to it since like the walking sticks, shooting bag and more recently the riding boots which were about £30 from a market in England. I call this one “Life Lessons From a Dishwasher.” • Don’t let me tell you how to live or anything, but if you run out of dishwasher soap/packs, allow me to suggest that you don’t just go ahead and use dishwashing liquid instead. Because this might happen if you do. I did this last night and must have used a tad too much because I came into the kitchen and saw suds leaking out from the dishwasher. Opened it up and found this inside. Thankfully I caught it super early because we were about to get a roomful of suds by the looks of things. I started cleaning up with a towel, and scooping the suds out with a bowl and dumping them in the sink. But every time I closed the door and it started again, MORE SUDS. I threw cold water on them. MORE SUDS. I thought “What makes suds go down? OIL!” So, I threw in a bunch of olive oil. That worked quite a bit. Google also told me to throw some salt and vinegar into the dishwasher, so in went half a jar of salt (the good kosher stuff, natch), and half a bottle of apple cider vinegar (didn’t have white). The suds went down, I ran the wash cycle again with no soap, and, frankly, the dishes are pretty clean. LIFE LESSON: don’t do it but if you do, put a salad dressing on that shit.
