It’s day 73/100 project. I aimed to average 10 mins a day but actually do much more than this. It’s done in chunks of time. My last session was cutting out the bases for these so they can float in the frame. Not an interesting activity to share. Yesterday I laid them out, not in the correct order but just to see the effect. It has helped steer me. I need more hand stitched ones and am in danger of falling behind if I don’t do some more regular sessions. However I have a lot of numbness in my fingers ( more than my MS normal) from the chemo and actually took a good chunk out of one yesterday washing up a blade from my mixer, so didn’t manage any stitching 🤦♀️ but I did play with sound. I’m spending so much time at my desk right now, my hips and back ache from it. This is a sign that I’m busy, productive, that there are many plates spinning and projects to dip into and that is exactly how I like it. Or rather, that’s how I like it right now. What I love about the #writerlife is the rhythm of work; it feels seasonal. This week: a busy spring flush of meetings, interviews, launching projects, setting up projects, submitting big creative projects. In a couple of weeks I’ll revert back to the other type of work I love, the slow opening to ideas, walking, researching, reading, jiggling the bait for the next big project. Last night though, with aching hips I downed tools and switched off the computer, stepping into the spring air, the early evening, the golden light. I walked up to the country park to see the bay’s crescent, then to St Oswald’s to wander through the headstones, a walk down a valley filled with the scent of wild garlic, and the sound of baby birds in nests, and the evening chorus. Some days start out rough, days you think you just have to survive until a fresh start tomorrow. But some days end up being pretty good sunny, productive days. Despite a rocky start. Today was just like that, a pretty typical day for me at the moment. The day starts with a phone call from the joiner or builder with some query or other, I get showered, dressed, take Penny for a quick walk and then head up to the house to go through any question those working on site might have. Afterwards I had therapy then had to pop straight back to the build site to pick some tulips and finish a bit of gardening, test out some wallpaper samples and get measurements and a list of bits to research from the joiner. Then I went home, fussed penny, put the tulips in water and had a much needed cup of tea while catching up with the guy I’m seeing. Then I walked penny again, went back on site to grab my notebook which I forgot and enjoy the warm evening breeze. Then I headed home, spent some time in the pottery practicing reproducing the same style pot over and over. It went better than I’d imagined! Afterwards I watered the houseplants, cleaned and mopped the pottery, watering the garden pots, did some yoga, put on some laundry, heated up some leftovers and started researching the things the joiner needed me to look into. It seems rare to have a day where I manage to pace myself, make time for things that give me peace between the jobs that need doing. Somehow it’s a balance I managed today. Though having said that, it’s 11pm and I still haven’t found a sink to fit the dimensions needed 😅 Do you enjoy hearing about others daily patterns? I’m pretty nosey and love ‘day in the life’ posts. But I never seem to get around to making one. Besides what would I say, a day in the life of a person on a healing journey/potter/project manager/print artist who’s currently taking a break… 🤷♀️ I wouldn’t know how to define myself! She got cut when she chased down some carpenter bees heading towards the carpenter bee trap, knocked the trap down, broke the jar, sliced her doggie wrist and set the trapped bees free. $1k later she is on the mend and has had enough of her cone of shame. TUESDAY ✔️ Thought I’d share a little snapshot of my day. Breakfast was protein yoghurt, berries and granola, snack was carrots hummus and a babybel. Lunch was a salad with pasta, Quorn pieces and cheese followed by satsumas and a Brunch bar. I had a couple of bourbons after school and some Quorn sliced fillet pieces after my dog walk and gym sesh. Tea was chilli salmon with garlic potatoes and broccoli followed by half a protein bar 💪🏻 Total calories is about 1635. I’ve drunk about 2.5 litres of squash and had a couple of black coffees too. This. This is what I dreamed about when I would become a full time photographer. And today, I did it. ✨ You’d honestly think it was something photo-related that I would have been looking forward to. Nope. It was a yard full of dogs running around, while I laid in my hammock on a warm, sunny day in Oklahoma. ✨ I used to be stuck in an office before the sun came up with 4 walls, a door and no windows. Because of my job, and depending on the task, sometimes my door would even be closed. Just me and my sensitive information in a box without any sunlight. I longed for the days where I could work outside or take a break, love on my dogs, and enjoy the sunshine. ✨ These are the days I wanted so badly. And that feels out-of-this-world-amazing. Having two sons was not something that I imagined for myself, even though motherhood was. And it’s funny because even if you are not someone that does much imagining about the future, I believe we all manifest expectations without necessarily regarding them. It happens somewhere behind the cerebrum, quietly our heart drafts a map of what we dream of. (And if you’re like me, you’re holding on faithfully, while trying to seem all breezy about how vulnerable it makes you feel.) I think it is these realized or disregarded expectations that can trip us up. Things almost never turn out the way you expected, but usually even better. That’s true for me of motherhood. … And then this boy came along. He has broken me wide open, and cranked the lights. Stopped by Sephora 1U yesterday. Was looking at a product in a less busy part of the store. 2 Malay customers (mid 20's) in hijabs sauntered over right as an SA appeared to ask if I needed help. As we spoke, I was suddenly pushed from behind. I turned. One hijabi had stepped into my personal space and was casually examining an item. "Excuse me," I said to her, not moving. I turned back to SA who was looking for an item. Hijabi pushed me again, as though she hadn't heard + seen me (standard MO, to deny your existence). Realized I was dealing with another iblis. "Excuse me," I said to her again. She studied the item in her hand innocently. Pretended she couldn't hear me. Casually eased into my space some more. They always want what's yours. Chinese SA ignored all of it. It's rare to come across M'sians who'll step up/speak out. It's not just UM academics. "Excuse me," I said again to the side of her face. Bending over to look at the product the SA had found, I shoved Malay cunt back forcefully with my butt and right elbow, swinging my bag behind me at her as she tried to stay rooted in my space. Alternative way: loudly + nicely say to her, "Jangan buat macam tu, dik. Kau pakai tudung, beradab sikit. Adik mental ke, dik? Adik kena respect boundaries. Kalau orang tak kacau engkau, kau jangan kacau orang." On the topic of actors who crave attention: Should the MCMC + gov get involved when exposing vile people? Was Xavier Justo wrong?
