The Spare Bedroom I can’t wait to start to start thinking about adding a bit of love to this room later this year. The first thing to go will be the terrible light fitting (bought in a moment of madness). I’d love to replace this bed (or at least the headboard) for something upholstered and patterned. The room is really unbalanced at the moment as the plan has always been to bring the downstairs sideboard up here to add balance/interest and storage (and a small sofa will replace the sideboard downstairs). Spare Bedroom Thoughts I haven’t posted this room in a while but we had a tidy up on Saturday and it’s not covered in washing so ta-da! 🤗 Once the hallway tweaking is finished and hopefully before (but maybe after) we decide on bathroom redo I’d love to do a bit of upgrading/faffing/tweaking in here. I still love this colour ( #inchryablue) but we just used bits that we already had and it feels a little unfinished. I’m thinking potentially a ceiling colour change, a fancy headboard, new rug, bench… not really sure yet but the ceiling light is first for the chop (strategically out of shot 😏) that’s for sure. I’ve actually got a ceiling rose to put up in here too. It’s all just so expensive so it’ll take a while. The artwork was in the hallway so is just propped up here for now and I’m not hating it. Unfinished rooms There’s a reason why the other side of this room isn’t shown much. Other than painting it and buying this throw and bargain sale curtains it’s never really been ‘done’. Hidden in that panelled wall is a secret door to the en-suite. Not only does the panelling do a great job of hiding the door, but it adds depth and interest to this room. I’ve added a simpler version of this panelling to a child’s bedroom I’m currently working on. I have a few projects on the go at the moment, a bedroom and two bathrooms. I don’t often share the behind the scenes at my clients homes for privacy reasons, but they’re really fun projects and such lovely families. Earlier this year I helped a customer design the interior of their new home, which is an old property they have gutted an extended. My customer has been project managing all the work so I haven’t been inside for a while but I popped in today as she said I’d see quite a difference - and she was right! I’ll share more pics as it’s finished but I couldn’t resist photographing their master bedroom. She is one of a very short list of customers who would agree to paint a whole room and ceiling dark teal (Farrow & Ball Inchrya Blue) and it’s made working with her so much fun. The room is huge with a high vaulted ceiling so it can definitely carry the colour, and the panelling which will frame the bed breaks it up a little. The colour frames the amazing views they have and really makes the beautiful Tom Raffield pendant light pop. I won’t lie I’m more than a little envious! | Portfolio Snapshot | I've spent this week adding some project pics to the Portfolio snapshot I chat my clients through on our Video call and it's really great to see how much harder these rooms now work for their families. This was the first room I worked on with Andrea, she had already had the extension and kitchen built and it needed something extra. It was so pale, there was no contrast and it needed warming up: enter @farrowandball #inchryablue. The orange chair is a feature and what you see as you enter the room, and sits perfectly opposite the bar. The island was long, yet there was 2-3 metres for circulation near the pantry cupboard - which is too big. So we added a wooden table extension and some seating, filling this space and providing seating to acompany Andrea when cooking. These pics are still missing some final cushions and accessories that we added later but as you can see - a massive lift. Better colours and better layout. YES PLEASE. I'm so proud of the work Rae Wolf has done in refreshing these homes to work so much better for these families! 🌟 Project 7 🌟 Hallway both stairs and landing ‼️ The biggest project so far but makes such a big difference and so happy with the results 😁 When I mentioned to people that I wanted something dark, most didn't like the idea... but have now changed their mind! The dark paint aid a whole new dynamic that flows beautifully through the house. Did put a light colour on far wall of stairs though so it wasn't too much. The spare bedroom rarely gets shown as quite frankly, it’s always such a mess. This little corner of joy will soon become a wardrobe (we’re desperate for the storage) and I’ll have to have a little think about how I can still breath little moments of joy into this space. This little sideboard already a history when I bought it from a lovely woman in Harrogate years ago (I drove for miles to collect it). It was her late Mothers and had been in the family from new. She was still polishing it as I left, clearly emotional; it obviously meant a lot to her. I promised her that I would love it (still do) and sent her a pic of it in my old flat. She sent me a beautiful message of thanks, telling me how much her Mum would have loved that it had been passed on to ‘someone lovely’ and was so pleased that it went to a good home (despite a trader hounding her saying that he’d pay her more than what I paid). It’s since moved with me to Manchester.
