Every Image narrates a Story #sures_c_ 📍 Gangaikonda Cholapuram Dancing was an important part of worship in Medieval temples as temples began to resemble palaces and Gods in temples were depicted like earthly kings in their palaces. Not only did they ritually inspect their realm, but there were rituals to wake, bathe, dress and entertain them. Music and dance were an important part of these rituals and recognizing the importance of these, we have inscriptions on the temple informing us of the donations given to the temple to maintain it which included allowances for dancers and musicians. Redefining Scale - that's what Ellora is all about!!! ➡️Cave 10, also known as Viswakarma Cave is the most famous of all the Buddhist Caves in Ellora. The Viswakarma Cave is also locally known as the Sutar-ka-jhopra (Carpenter's hut). The local carpenters visit the cave frequently and worship Buddha as Viswakarma, the patron of their craft. This is the only chaitya in these series of caves, constructed around 7th century AD. This cave is one of the most magnificent caves in Ellora. The cave is entered through a gate, cut in the natural rock, which leads into a courtyard, with cells on both sides arranged in two storeys. Through the courtyard, one reaches the shrine of Lord Buddha, a typical chaityagriha. The chaitya once had a high screen wall, which is ruined at present. The shrine is 81 feet long 43 feet wide and 34 feet high. The hall is divided into a nave with side aisles by 28 octagonal pillars, each 14 feet high. #bharatfrommylense #buddhism #teampixel #ourcultureourpride #ellora #elloracaves #kailash #aurangabad #maharashtra #maharashtratourism #ancientindia #archeologicalsite #unescoworldheritage #mytravelgram #history #templesofindia #indiatravel #wondersofindiasstoriesofindia #incredibleindia #temple #indiantemplearchitecture #amazingview #hinduism #templearchitectureifindia #exploreindia #travelrealindia #indiaphotoes #indianheritage #indianculture #heritage

One of the most interesting and lesser-known rock temples of Maharashtra is the Anandeshwar Temple at Lasur village in Daryapur taluka in Amravati district. Built on the bank of the Purna River on raised ground, this temple built in black stone looks very much like a fort from a distance. Historical records state that this temple was built by Raja Ramachandra of the Yadavas of Devagiri somewhere in the 13th century but its purpose, construction and lack of availability of the black stone in the vicinity has raised many questions.   Though this temple is built in the typical Hemadpanthi style, the layout of the temple is very unusual. The temple in plan appears like a three-petal flower with a relatively small entrance on the fourth side. There are three sanctums and an open sabha mandapknown as swarga mandap in the middle. This round structure is a visual delight with intricately carved pillars in the background while the infinite blue sky appears to be in the foreground! Another fascinating architectural detail is that rocks of different sizes appear to be joined or interlocked to hold the entire structure. . . Credit - @_cooldeep__ .
