"Ptaki, które zniknęły" Simona Jimeneza to pozycja, która ukazała się w serii "Uczta Wyobraźni" wydawanej przez @wydawnictwo_mag I jest to jak dla mnie jedna z najlepszych pozycji jakie przeczytałam w tym roku. W tej historii splecione zostały losy Pani Kapitan statku kosmicznego, podróżującego przez fałdy; mężczyzny, mieszkańca świata, który dostarcza dhube pozoswiatowcom; niemego dziecka, które pewnej nocy spada z nieba w świecie mężczyzny i trafia pod jego opiekę, a później właśnie Pani Kapitan oraz tysiącletniej kobiety, która pochodzi ze starej ziemii i to dzięki niej ludzie mogli z niej uciec przed zagładą i eksplorować dalsze zakątki przestrzeni kosmicznej i tam żyć. Relacja z samego początku książki między wpierw nastolatkiem, a później już dorosłym Kaedą, a Panią Kapitan Imani bardzo kojarzyła mi się z podobnym wątkiem w "Hyperionie" Simmonsa. Autor też użył nazwy "Jauting" w swojej książce i ona jest wzięta z powieści Alfreda Bestera "Gwiazdy moim przeznaczeniem" - polecam zapoznać się przed Jimenezem, dobrze wtedy rozumie się czym jest wspomniany jauting i jakie ma znaczenie dla ludzkości. Książka pokazuję, że los czasem łączy bardzo różnych ludzi, że dokonane wybory mogą prześladować nas przez całe życie, że rodzina stworzona z początkowo obcych ludzi potrafi bardzo mocno być ze sobą związana, że ludzi się poprostu kocha i nie potrzebne są żadne powody, pokazuje też niestety jak bezduszne i bezwzględne są korporacje myślące tylko o swoimi zysku, a nie o ogólnym rozwoju i dobrobycie ludzkości. Into @the.marmorosch and its amazing history. * To be honest this was the building I was the most excited to visit during the Heart #Bucharest #instameet by @cronicaridigitali. * Founded in 1848 by the Jewish banker Jacob Marmorosch and his brother-in-law, Jacob Loebel, the institution that was soon to become the most powerful bank in the history of the Romanian economy. * The summer of 1863 marks one of the key moments in a history of 100 years, as Jacob Marmorosch hires a young brilliant student named Mauriciu Blank, of not even 16 at the time. With formidable financial abilities, a great vision of the economy and business, plus the 66 years spent working as a banker, granted Mauriciu Blank the title of the greatest Romanian banker of all times. * In 1869, at 21 years old, Mauriciu becomes partner and in 1874, the bank is officially renamed The Marmorosh-Blank Bank. * In the 1920s it was the most powerful bank in Romania and in 1923 it had 25 branches in the country and another four in New York, Paris, Vienna and Istanbul. * However, the Great Depression corroborated with bad management decision and risky investments made by Aristide, the son of Mauriciu Blank, left the bank in a liquidity crisis. * With the intervention of the National Bank and King Carol II in 1931, the bank was kept afloat, with the last debts being paid between 1946 and 1948. Unfortunately the anti-capitalist policies introduced by the communist regime, governed by Petru Groza, led to a liquidation of all the private banks in 1948. * Today the former bank stands as a luxurious hotel, with 217 rooms. The smaller Vault was transformed in to a stylish bar where you can enjoy a drink among the 3600 deposit boxes, all refurbished to a tee. * For me, this has been one of the most fascinating buildings and stories of the tour, short of the Royal Palace... One of the must-stops in #VelikoTarnovo is the Samovodska Charshia - the craftsmen street. * As a local producer, this was [and still is] the place to be. Many of the people from the nearby Samovodene village came to sell here their home-grown produce in the second half of the 19th century. * Even today you can see a variety of shops, from potterers to woodworkers, weavers and copper workers, each more talented than the other.
