The TMT Corporation and the University of Hawaiʻi Board of Regents proposed to build a massive 18-story telescope, office building, road, and parking lot --called the Thirty Meter Telescope (TMT) --on undeveloped conservation lands and “ceded” lands on MAUNA KEA. - KAHEA The Hawaiian Environmental Alliance . The TMT funder, the Betty and Gordon Moore Foundation, contracted The Keystone Center (TKC) and interviewed 60 stakeholders all who gave them advice about deciding to build the telescope but THEY IGNORED THE ADVICE and brought much challenge, despair, division, and conflict. .
