Bit embarrassing but was always planning on sharing this one day and it came up on my memories a few days go so thought why not. This was the amount of meditation I was taking this time last year. I was being a yes man at the doctors and taking about 20 tablets a day for mental health, my rare illness and an injury I got which I annoyingly still have problems with. Am always in and out seeing doctors, hospitals are not my favourite place but got to be thankful they are trying to help. I now only take 8 tablets a day (wish it was none) but they keep me stable. This only got reduced because I was getting frustrated so stopped being a yes man, addressed the doctor and had a sensible chat, if I hadn’t of done this I would still be on a high number. Some people are against medication, some people need medication and some people wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for medication. Just trying to do my bit putting things into perspective, raising awareness in the hope it helps someone. Am not pro taking meds I tried not taking them but made me worse and to some taking meds might be a step back. Tonight i am being compassionate with myself - allowing myself to cry and comfort myself with a late night strawberry milkshake. Because my head feels heavy, my stomach is sick, and my nerves are tripping out. Apparently symptoms of forgetting to take my medication for two days. Almost five months of consistentcy and two seemingly insignificant days trigger a collapse in my system. That's all it takes.. It fills me with dread to think about it. Because my doctor moved away and the one who took over took three glances at me and said I seem fine and healthy. Time to get me off the meds. I didn't want to be on them to begin with. But I felt like I'd exhausted my options. I'm barely stable enough to work a part time job - I don't feel my best or even healthy. Right now it is like this. There have been a lot of changes that have been happening over the past few days that I am struggling coming to terms with. These have come as a huge shock and I am still coming to term with them. Whenever something is bothering me and impacting upon my mental health I always have issues with sleep. Currently my sleep routine has been impacted severely to the point I am surviving on a couple of hours sleep per night. Which then leaves me fatigued, physically and mentally pained, confused, distracted, overwhelmed and so on. There are a number of influences that can impact sleep some of these include (but not limited to): 1. Mental health 2. Medical conditions 3. Circadian Rhythm disorder 4. Medication 5. Nightmares 6. Overthinking/rumination 7. Alcohol and illegal drugs. Ways that I have found that can help with a healthy sleeping habits. 1. Develop a calming evening and nighttime routine 2. Reducing caffeine intake 3. Avoiding naps 4. Bright light therapy 5. Limit screen time 6. Practice mindfulness 7. Consulting a GP. As of a couple of days ago, I restarted my antidepressant. Let’s have a kōrero 💊 Breaking the stigma surrounding antidepressants is crucial part of mental health advocacy, a cause I actively pursue and wholeheartedly embrace as a central purpose of my life. Throughout my journey, I’ve navigated the ups and downs of mental health, trying various approaches. However, antidepressants have consistently found their way back into my life, signaling that fighting alone isn’t always the answer. Taking a pill shouldn’t carry shame; it’s a necessary part of managing a chemical imbalance in the brain, ensuring stability and contentment. Since adolescence, these medications have been integral to my growth, both mentally and physically and they have helped me through my darkest times. While holistic approaches are valuable, some individuals, like myself, require medication to consistently thrive. Recognising that depression and anxiety may not always surrender to natural remedies results in a more inclusive understanding of mental health treatment and care 🙏🏼 If you take a happy pill, you are not alone and it does not make you any less of a person. Some of the highest achievers and elite athletes take medication for their mental health. It allows them to function in day to day life and do all these things they wouldn’t otherwise be able to do if they were trying to battle with low mood and obsessive/ harmful thoughts. I don't know why people always say "why not aim for a 5k first?" 😂 I don't have much to report which is why I've been quieter. What did we get told as weans, if you've nothing nice to say don't say anything at all 😂 My pains been bad, my moods been bad, but I've been trying to ignore both and get on with everything anyway. On the upside people have finally (after 22 months and 17 days) stopped telling me to be patient. The pain in my foot and ankle has been the worst this week. The most annoying thing about it is not being able to trace it back to a reason, I've not been doing anything different to normal. Then you get stuck in the cycle of bad pain>bad sleep>bad mood>bad pain>bad sleep>bad mood etc. So meditation, taking painkillers, tens machine, massage balls and stuff, sunlight (because there is sunlight!) and trying not to be angry at everything and just accept it is how it is. I say trying. Actually I was walking down the stairs out of @musclehut_falkirk the other day and someone behind me said "look at the speed of you on those stairs!" and sometimes it's easy to forget for a long time I was hopping down, non weight bearing, on my left only, one by one. Giving everyone the fear. Now I'm maybe still doing one by one but I'm only holding the bannister and wall not a pair of crutches. And yes, probably going faster than advisable but you'll not change me and my speedy ways. It was really nice of them and a wee boost 😊 because other people notice progress much more than I do. I've lots of fun stuff coming up to look forward to and it's hard not to be worried I won't manage it but managing some is better than writing it all off so 🤞 And 🤞 also for the London marathon ballot next year!
