Was a crazy night last night. 15 hrs without power. 70mph winds took down one of our huge pines. Over a 100 ft high and 40” in diameter !! Hit our deck but thankfully missed the house. 🙏🙏 Thanks too some bad ass neighbors we got it all cut up and moved. Can’t even say how thankful I am for all the help. Hello! I wanted to introduce myself, the face behind @popupartcafe. I’m Malori! I’m a designer, teacher, and community builder. I created the pop-up art café as a way to weave creativity back into everyday life. I’m mystified by the fact that we’re on a rock floating in space, yet it’s so easy to dismiss doing the things we love in exchange for the things that we think we *should* be doing. Often I catch myself thinking, “I want to make some art, read a book, write a poem, take a walk, etc” Yet, instead, the thought drifts away and I find myself cleaning the house, scrolling, texting someone, making a grocery list, etc. It’s so easy to go unconscious and forget. We’re just here for a little tiny sliver of time. 🌎 This is why I created the pop-up art café. It’s easy to forget the creative parts of ourselves. The pieces that crave imagination, expansion, connection. 🫶 The art café is intended to serve as a pause from everyday life, an open invitation to sit down with this creative part of yourself. It’s also an opportunity to be in community with others. Doing art with others in a communal space is an opportunity to have real conversations and connect in new ways. ✨ So welcome! I took these photos in October ‘23 to help highlight and promote our Nostalgia Suite to guests. This apartment was the very first space we rented out to guests back when we bought this property in 2018. Of course, “back then” this wasn’t yet The Oasis, and we hadn’t yet conceived of creating the magical “Museinn” we’re becoming today. A lot has happened in the past six years. Fast-forward to November of ‘23, when our ancient boiler wouldn’t shut off, and we were worried it was going to blow. Cutting its power and realizing we were going to have to come up with the $25K+ to replace it, as well as facing the reality of loads of mounting debts from a couple of very lean years, we made the decision to sell our primary home and move our entire family to The Oasis full-time. I feel very fortunate that the Nostalgia Suite is now our permanent home. Happy Monday 🤍 This past week has been a literal shit show 💩 3 out of 4 pups got sick. As y’all saw, Lorelai got SUPER sick on Tuesday. She has hemorrhagic gastroenteritis. Her is likely from eating sticks. Thankfully, she bounced back quick and is doing EXCELLENT on her meds! Shes 100% normal now. However, starting Thursday, Chandler and Beretta started with some diarrhea. I think we got a bad batch of goats milk as I had just opened a new bottle Wednesday and they’re the only two who got the milk. Anyway, we tried some home remedies. Everyone was acting normal, just bad poo 💩 Well Saturday night, Beretta refused dinner. She was acting extremely uncomfortable and wouldn’t rest. So we took her to the emergency vet. She has Gastroenteritis and is now on meds and on the mend. They recommended we fast Chandler for 24 hours to see if that helps. Well it didn’t. So today, he went to the vet and has the same issue. So now all 3 are on meds… Hopefully all on the mend. Chandler is acting 100% normal except diarrhea. The other two have returned to normal.
