Thanks for all the lovely birthday messages everyone! I’ve had an amazing celebration spread over 10 days!!. The grande finale was going to Bristol to fabulous aerial training course for professionals at @unit15creationspace . The celebrations started last Friday with the @androandeve show. Favourite act was @oedipussi.rex performing as a hilarious drag sandcastle 😂 Got a fab new outfit including some tweed bondage pants from @mingalondon .Had some quality time at a Korean restaurant with Dylan my lovely Neurotypical son who doesn’t see as much of me as his autistic brother whose care needs are very high. Went to learn some new tricks with a hollow tube and fire eating with @fire_in_your_face which was fab after 20 years fire performing to play with some other techniques🔥 My actual birthday was lush training with my circus sister @tikkinaggart and then partying with Pete and boys enjoying pink fizz, surf and turf bbq and tasty chocolate things😋. It’s been amazing catching up with beautiful friends in Bristol and working with the best aerial teachers. A couple of days ago, I asked myself, if today was my last day, how would I leave the world and the people around me? Would I have any regrets or would I leave peacefully? The answer was so reassuring, it gave me peace. If I were to leave today, I know I left the people around me with beautiful memories and lots of love. I tried my best to be there for anyone who would need me and every day, I tried to help the world, the animals, even by sharing an adoption post or a demand for ceasefire. I would leave in peace ... and happy, because these last 40 years have been filled with joy, adventures, travels, happiness and lots of learning, but above all, filled with love. But, I feel like I still have so much to live, and learn and give. So many people to meet and love, so many trips to take, so many laughs to have, many sunsets and sunrises to admire. wow a lot can change in 10 years!! I looked at this photo this morning and thought wow, 10 years ago when I was 28, still dying my hair blonde… still starving myself and struggling with eating disorders and i was smoking toxic disgusting cigarettes and drinking way too much vodka, I was high on cocaine on my way to bike rally 🫣 and i see now gave away so much of my time and energy to many wrong people and places! A person can really change a lot in your lifetime and become so many different versions of yourself that you don’t even recognize yourself. Now my social battery is so small, and I’m so careful about that kind of energy or people I’m around that there isn’t many people I can be around ☮️✌🏼 The thought of smoking a cigarette makes me want to puke, same with vodka. 🤮🤢 You couldn’t pay me millions of dollars to ever touch cocaine or be around that kind of life or people EVER again! And I’ve accepted my redhead craziness that I am! I’m looking forward to going towards my 40s, becoming who I’m truly meant to be, I’ve overcame many addictions, all those years I was just trying to self soothe a hurt little girl inside🥹💔 and this year I’m going to love that little girl in me and show her life can be good and doesn’t need to be numbed out or avoided. I took a leap of faith, leaving behind friends, family, and a secure position of 12 years with amazing benefits. I left behind all I had ever known to start a new life in Florida. I have to admit, it was one of the scariest decisions I have ever made, but at the same time, I knew it was the best decision for me and my family. Today, I received the sweetest note on my door at work, and it just melts my heart! I truly love being a sonographer, and I am so grateful to be working with an amazing team who recognizes it! The journalist, writer, poet, playwright (and much more) named Alden Nowlan was born on January 25, 1933, in Stanley, Nova Scotia, Canada, and he passed away at age 50 on June 27, 1983, in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada. He was born very poor at a place he would refer back to as Desolation Creek. His mother left him and his sister with his paternal grandmother after he was born (she was only fourteen). His family thought education was a complete waste of time, and after fourth grade, he left school. He worked at a sawmill starting at age 14, and at 16, he discovered the library. He traveled 18 miles to the library on weekends to read and get books but had to read and write in secret. At 19, he started to work with the Observer, a newspaper in Hartland. There, he began writing his first poems, later published by Fredericton’s Fiddlehead Poetry Books. He married Claudine Orser in 1963 and legally adopted her son. He continued to write, but three years later, he developed throat cancer, and after radiation and 3 surgeries, he began to get well. His poems at this time were about his trials. He won a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1967, was awarded the Governor General’s Award for Poetry, and was offered a Writer-in-Residence at the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton. He stayed in that position until he passed in 1983.
