@letsescapril day 23: simulation. At least once a day at work, I turn to my friend and say “this isn’t real” but it is. Somehow it always is. What an absolute fever dream of a time we’re having out here in general but especially this year. I think there’s a virus in this simulation.

Simple Joys We must take a moment to enjoy the simple joys in the grand scheme of things. Even on weekends off from our nine-to-five jobs, we think we must be productive to feel accomplished. When do we allow our minds and bodies to just be and enjoy the art of doing nothing? As I write this, it’s a Saturday morning. I am sitting on my big meditation cushion outside in my backyard in the sunshine. A cup of coffee is next to me and I have an acoustic soundtrack of The Beatles playing. Even while sitting here, I catch myself trying to think of a clever poem. I want to remind you to observe and soak it in. I am writing about how I am feeling without editing myself. I've tried many times, & walked back again, before I came - to let cleverness be at rest, & my heart beat plain. I have held the breath of babies, those with metal in their mouths, & my own, tasting pain veering into blindness. And I know the weight of spent flowers - how their hearts hang low & heavy, afraid to fall, & I, too, was fearful. Darkness'll take me, goodness too shallow, arms may not reach, if my feet & tongue should stumble... Into wounds where I would not follow, but still, I go, deep, beneath this cage of bone & heart. Certain madness plays in shadows, batting trick eyes, soul's haloed light - lost & I have found... Gifts in unbearable burdens, laughter beneath the rubble, smiles half-hidden under the stubble. Strength in what can't be put down, & I recall blossoms bursting their petals, gathering courage. To open up to you. Feel your contrast made into beauty, as shadows grow longer in the light. If I seem uneasy, I'll be alright. It is only the darkness I was born into - my maiden form. 🌙 My boss asked me this week what superpower I wouldn't want to have. I'm in no way indecisive, but I struggled to answer because all gifts & abilities have a duality, & whatever it was, I'd just do the best I could with it. So when my coworkers said, "telepathy cuz you can't turn it off," I just grinned & real subtle-like said, "yes, you can." 😂 It only took about 30 seconds... God, I love laughter. THREE LIVES (𝑎𝑓𝑡𝑒𝑟 𝑠𝑎𝑟𝑎𝒉 𝑟𝑢𝑠𝑠𝑒𝑙𝑙) still wouldn't be enough for a wandering wondering ghost. Were I a doctor, I'd wish to be a nun; my true devotion is tasting- mountains and oceans; thousands of breaths between. My teeth scrape dirt from my fingernails, scrape my tongue clean, pluck a strawberry off the vine, puncture a shoulder, lightly, bite my lip, or yours, or anyone's. An astronaut, a deep sea diver? Submerge me, arms wide. A life crippled by panic? That's the one I'm in now. It's an experience I won't revisit. I imagine a plane where I'm fearless. I imagine being always on a plane. Everyone a lover. Every child mine. Every space a home. Inside of me is big enough to consume the whole world. The galaxy, even.
