15 year-old me would be so proud of me. Not only am I a professional writer, but I’m also coaching a cheer team. And you know what? IM STOKED. I’m not going to be shy about it. 3 separate times I have been selected by the staff of @medium to be boosted across a platform with over 1 MILLION subscribers. I am being paid MONEY to write about my experiences and the things I feel passionate about during the weekdays and then I’m coaching the sport I love in the evenings! What?! I have spent so much of my life in survival mode. Struggling through poverty, abuse, mental illness, grief, and very recently a chronic physical illness that limits me immensely. I value vulnerability. I have never shied away from authentically sharing my life, even when my life was in complete shambles. While I never said, “My life is complete shit,” I certainly never tried to portray everything as sunshine and rainbows. It feels so good to not only write about those things as I heal, but to also see success in a career that only ever felt like a pipe dream. My life isn’t perfect, but no one who knows me or has followed me for a while is surprised by that. For the first time ever though, I am happy. I am PROUD. Life is good! And I’m sure there are people who do feel surprised by that. It was worth it to survive it all. Now I get to make art from that tragedy and people enjoy it!
