Once one of the world's largest inland bodies of water, the Aral Sea has dramatically shrunk due to human intervention, causing environmental devastation, loss of livelihoods, and health issues. Therefore we portrayed the city of Moynaq and its community. Once it was located at the waterfront and a flourishing fishermen's town. Due to the decrease in water, it is now 150 km away from the lake. What remains are the ships and the infrastructure of the port. Another super day exploring the very tip of Cornwall. The Levant Beam engine and mine workings were absolutely fascinating. Scary work in tunnels stretching 1.75 miles out under sea, built in the early 1800s. (NT free entry but prebooked tour only). Next, a walk along the cliffs to Botallack mine, and then an inland 3 mile moorland walk visiting some of Cornwall's neolithic and Bronze age monuments. Men-an-tal, Lanyon's quoit, stone circles .. 9 maidens and Merrie Maidens, and various standing stones, dolmen and barrows. Finally, a super seafood tapas meal at Mackerel sky on Newlyn, and an incredible view of a very full fishing port. And we dodged the rain again! One of the things I loved most about the Seabank Tank Farm was the beautiful patterns and textures that were revealed when the sun shone on the steel tanks. I believe many people assumed the tanks to only be dark and uniform in their colour, but in reality, time made them change differently, and their individual expressions strengthened as time passed by. The tanks were truly like these big canvases that slowly shifted and changed each year. These photos (with minimal editing) are from an early morning - a time of the day when the sun enhance the red tones of the tanks - in September, last year.
