You plant peeps seem to be pretty into the tissue culture plants I posted earlier so here are a few more from my first trip to our lab. 1 - a little test tube begonia, I can't remember the variety. 2-3 are hedychium gingers with some nice roots wrapping around the jar. 4 is little baby oxalis rusciformis. 5 are sinningias I think and 6 is Begonia Madame Queen which end up getting huge! Jade Vine💎 Bow down to the queen of the bean family! These are the extraordinary blooms of the Jade Vine, Strongylodon macrobotrys. Not only is the stark turquoise coloration intoxicating, but also rare. Less than 10% of flowers have a blue color. On top of that, these flowers are quite big. Each flower is up to 3in long and the entire pseudoraceme (last photo) can be over 4ft long. The Jade Vine is a member of the fabaceae family, which is the plant family that contains all legumes (true beans). This unique plant is endemic to the Philippines, and very rare in the wild. It’s considered endangered as its native habitat is lost to deforestation. However, it is becoming more availability through cultivation. I’ve only ever seen this plant in bloom once before, many years ago. I didn’t know much about plants then, but I was still in awe over this one. Thought we’d go to Logees @logeesplants on this cold, wet (almost) end of the year day, and it was great as it was the final day of their holiday lights in the greenhouse and gnome scavenger hunt….The kids loved it! We didn’t find all the gnomes though as they were hidden pretty well in the 3 greenhouses but we were pretty happy just trying to find them all..I of course can’t go to Logees without buying something 🤦♀️🤪and their orchid section was looking pretty amazing so I picked up a Brassolaeliocattleya Amy Wakasugi….i cant wait for this one to bloom as not only is it absolutely gorgeous, it apparently smells sweet and jasmine like and that sounds heavenly. Went to Logee’s today and it was still amazing in their greenhouses….lots of gorgeous blooms and fruiting trees still. I love it in there and of course we all know if I’m going to Logees I’m buying a plant 😂🤦♀️. Pilgrimage to @logeesplants I remember visiting Logee’s often when I was fresh out of school and had to really stretch my budget just to take a couple of their new introductions home. Today Hibiscus ‘White Hot’ totally stole the show, and it was fun to see the Ficus pumila still running rampant across the supports by the entrance to the greenhouses. My mom @wendrewali got me this for my *cringe* 34th birthday (Sept 14th) and it arrived in perfect condition today. I will be posting an unboxing video today cause I haven't actually unboxed a plant in forever. I /was/ going to buy a coffin terrarium at Michaels for this but it is WAY too big (not complaining at all - I'm so impressed by the size!!) so instead she will be living her best life on my porch for now by my carnivorous plants that also came from #logeesgreenhouse and will be brought inside when I start bringing all the babies in for fall and winter. Got this beauty at the @logeesplants rare plant sale today. The man who builds the greenhouses drove me back to my car. He told me this staghorn fern was part of an 80 year old plant that was growing on a support pole. Logees was taking it down to propagate and it was so rooted to the pole, it came down with the fern and down came the greenhouse walls! I wanted the first one so bad…it’s absolutely amazing and puts my two to shame. …sigh one day. My haul from Logees rare plant day sale! Today was amazing and here’s my haul of goodies from Logees. First up my rare goodie, a Hoya kaimuiki this I’m really excited about it’s a hybrid cross of macgillivrayi and archboldiana two Hoyas that have absolutely massive blooms so can you imagine how this one will be if I ever get it to bloom ….😍😍😍 ooh dream Hoya bloom, next I can’t believe it but a Hoya sigilatis! I don’t have this Hoya it’s been on my wishlist but somehow I have yet to find the perfect one this one was 10 bucks so that was pretty perfect today 😂😉 a cissus amazinonica which honestly I think I just blacked out and got it as it has never been anywhere near my wish list and I know it’s a pain in the butt for humidity 🤦♀️🤷♀️ oh well it’s pretty and it was 10 bucks soooo 🤷♀️ a really nice looking variegated monstera standleyana….this plant is cool! I’m happy to add him to my jungle a Hoya obovata splash ….I know, I know I don’t need it! I have a massive one that bloomed this summer but this one is absolutely covered in peduncles! And again 10 bucks for a huge covered in peduncles….are you seriously telling me you wouldn’t? Went to @logeesplants for rare houseplant day! Tbh, we didn't get into the rare houseplant room since Miss Baby's fan died and it wouldn't have been fair for her to be outside for that long. However, their regular greenhouses were stacked, as always and I found a gorgeous #anthuriummagnificum that had 2 good sized plants growing and a #syngoniummojito that also had two vines! Completly worth the trip 💚 It was hot and packed (even with getting there at 10:07), but everyone was super nice.
