Throughout my 16-year career, I’ve written countless magazine and newspaper articles but writing a book was another level - especially since revealing Wookie’s story also meant revealing my own. I wrote 𝓦𝓸𝓸𝓴𝓲𝓮 𝓘𝓼 𝓝𝓸𝓽 𝓗𝓲𝓼 𝓡𝓮𝓪𝓵 𝓝𝓪𝓶𝓮 knowing that, once it was published, there was nothing left to do but hope people would enjoy reading it, have a positive takeaway, and learn something new. I gave it my whole heart and am so appreciative of every single person who takes the time to read my work. Hello world! I’ve been deliberately keeping away from social media for a while now. The past few months have been hectic to say the least - both at work and home. But truth be told, social media fatigue was real and it felt good to take a break. Even after doing the same job for years, it gives me plenty of joy to receive the print edition of my magazines. Here’s the latest issue of Singapore magazine - an @siforg publication that I’m extremely proud to work on. As I have progressed professionally over the years, writing has become somewhat secondary as I struggle to find the time for it while managing a team of writers who, needless to say, do a wonderful job. But for this issue, I decided to push myself a bit more and ended up writing three features - an interview with our former Prime Minister, ESM Goh Chok Tong, another interview with @marc.nicholson123 of @1880singapore and another story on a Singaporean team-led preservation of a heritage precinct in eastern Indian city Kolkata’s Chinatown neighborhood. There was so much to learn from all the brilliant people - a globally-respected world leader, a social activist and entrepreneur, and an urban thinker and designer. Always thankful to our wonderful client @kavicurikuti , my teammates @atinypoem @itoshiiyun , publishing services manager Rahmah and our writers @z.xijie @rachelljz and many others who aren’t on Instagram. When @carolinefaulknerstylist and I collaborated and formed @whitepicket_interiors, we never dreamed it would lead to this. For as long as I can remember I’ve been an avid magazine collecter and coveter; pouring over the glossy pages, inhaling all the goodness, always so intrigued by who lived in those homes and how they had been styled. I’d cut out pages I was inspired by and I’d blu tack them to my wall when we were renovating (well before Pinterest was around). With the news of @hotbikemag stopping a printed version of its magazine it’s becoming clear that a printed magazine is going to be a thing of the past. I get it but it’s still very sad. I’m kind of a magazine junky, there’s nothing like picking up an old magazine and flipping through it and it just takes you back. How are kids going to see cool shit if they can’t find an old stash of there dad’s magazines. I know most of its online but if you don’t know to google something then you’ll never see it. Here’s a few I picked up today from my home library, I know @americanironmag is still around but @mini_truckin_magazine and I think this version of BIG TWIN magazine have been gone for a while now.
