ALAIN GORAGUER - RARE SOUNDTRACKS & LOST TAPES [1973-1984] French composer Alain Goraguer who first made a name for himself as a sideman and arranger for Serge Gainsbourg wrote very few soundtracks, but amongst them, the legendary La Planète Sauvage (1973) is an absolute staple of France’s essential music. During that same period of time, Goraguer wrote two rare and beautiful scores using the same masterclass arrangements. On L’Affaire Dominici (1975), Alain Goraguer creates a theme of great melodic clarity from a palette of breathy flutes, clavinet D6 baroque textures, wah-wah guitars and slow-paced drums that clearly reminds La Planete Sauvage’s atmosphere. 📖 Story time 📖 The past couple years I’ve really been struggling with releasing any sort of music. I had been sitting on countless projects that were left collecting dust (like most of us) but I was my own worst enemy. I never thought any project was finished and they needed more work. “I hate these chords. I should change this sound. Why even finish this?” Fast forward to September of last year I swapped computers and my backed up hard drive had crashed. I lost every project up until that point. A gut punch that I won’t forget. A while back I was with a good friend and was showing him some of the tracks that were lost on SoundCloud through private links. He tells me “Dude, you need to release these.” I’m like no way these weren’t even close to done. And he says to me, “Every song you showed me has made me feel something. Other people deserve to feel it too.” And just like that I had no argument. He was right. I have nothing to lose by putting these out there. Why hold these songs to myself if I can’t even find the spark in them anymore? In a way I think it’s a good thing the projects were lost. I felt a sense of relief knowing I didn’t have to worry about them anymore. A way to start fresh. The Lost Tapes - a 4 track EP that will be out on all streaming platforms on April 10th.
