It seems intimidating to make your kiddos snacks yourself, seems like a lot of work and daunting. Yesterday I made two different snacks with 4 ingredients or less in 20 min active prep time. One trick I would say would be to get all your tools and ingredients out before you start, mise en place, it makes everything smoother and faster. The first was banana chips that I sliced thin with cinnamon, vanilla, nutmeg, and a little water to loosen the flavor for better coating. The second was Kiwi, Pineapple, Maple, Lime fruit leather. I used my dehydrator at 135 for 9 hours. You could use your ovens lowest setting (generally 170 ish) for about 4-5 hours. Then after it was cooled I sliced the leather with a pizza cutter and put both in a mason jar and put a silica packet in to keep them from going soft. I saved my banana peels for my plants (see previous post) and I saved my kiwi skins for my chickens. I know you can eat the skins but I didn’t think it would be great for the texture of the leather. Some things I learned for next time I would want to slice the banana pieces a little longer if possible. Also, I didnt evenly lay out the fruit leather so it was more crispy on the thinner edges than the perfect middle. Always learning. I haven't embroidered for a long time. In fact, I think my last completed project was also for Sonny, but when I was pregnant with him. And he's eight. So it's been a while. But he's doing embroidery for his handicraft this year, and since he loves all things dinosaur I wanted to get him a book with some dino patterns in it. I happened across How to Embroider Almost Everything, by @wendigratz. Sonny doesn't trust his own skills yet, so he had me take the helm for this Spinosaurus and tree. Adding a post in support of a hopeful brand rep application for @abiboyddesigns. These seamless patterns have become a firm favourite in our household, from the excitement of pirate ships in the height of summer to the beautiful Christmas toy design which was worn on Christmas Day this year 🥰. I've been sewing for my little boy for about three and a half years now, and his wardrobe has consisted of my makes to varying degrees - some seasons it's entirely home-made and others (mainly where I've been short on time) where shop-bought items have been complemented with my own makes. I've found that the more I sew, the more I look for unusual fabrics and designs, and the point that I discovered that I could buy seamless patterns - particularly those that are exclusive or semi-exclusive - was an exciting one. I love the idea of having designs that have been lovingly created by an artist which can then be turned into clothing, and best of all when you find a designer whose vision aligns with your own it means you can reliably go back again and again and find beautiful new designs to use. @abiboyddesigns is definitely one of those and I'd love the opportunity to support her by doing something I love.
