Here’s a little North and South fact for you. 🧐 For those of you who have astutely noticed before, have you ever wondered why Daniela has red, puffy sections around her eyes? 👀 This is discernable in many scenes, but most notably during the dinner party scene and when she gets off her London-bound train in the penultimate scene. The reason is that the make-up artists tried to use as many authentic Victorian make-up preparations as possible during the production, one being the use of rose and barley water on a woman’s face to cleanse, it, give it a perfume, and draw out the natural blush in a suitably subtle way. 🥰 However, in the case of dear Daniela, she had a very mild reaction to some of the preparations, hence why you can see puffy eyes in many of the scenes. 😲😬 There were plans to use modern make-up to cover this up, but they decided against it, feeling that it was staying true to the Victorian period as well as the attested problems of contemporary cosmetics to leave it that way, Also, they felt the natural modesty and imperfections helped to emphasise Margaret’s character. #northandsouth #northandsouth2004 #margarethale #margaretmonday #makeup #cosmetics #funfacts #perioddramas
