I’m back in Virginia after facing some of the hardest days of my life in Florida this past week. As many of you know, my great uncle Merle Berkshire passed away last Wednesday. There is undoubtedly a hole left in the lives of everyone he ever met. Even though I’m so incredibly heartbroken that he’s gone, it’s helped remind me just how much i love my wacky, sweet, crazy, beautiful family. Staying at Uncle Merle’s house while I was in Florida helped me get a wonderful glimpse into his life growing up. His sister, aka my grandma and the last of the Berkshire siblings, is such a strong and resilient woman. I’m so proud to be her descendant. She spent the past few days showing me pictures of the Berkshire family, including some of her own younger pictures. I’ve included a handful of them here. I’m telling you, you could write a book on these people. Maybe one day I will. Uncle Merle had a daughter who passed away almost 11 years ago, and I always loved to go to his house to see her pictures. I adored my cousin Vickie. (She’s in the green frame). I even got to see a young picture of my mom! She’s in the last picture, what a cutie! The last slide is a song I sang at Uncle Merle’s funeral. I know he was listening with a smile and a big thumbs up 👍. I love you forever, Uncle Merle. Does the perfect live-action Belle gown exist? I’ve actually seen some amazing cosplay costumes that come closer to the 1991 animated version than the on-screen versions. I love the vibrant golden yellow gown from The Man in the Iron Mask (1998) and wish the 2017 Disney movie costume had been more like that in color and style. Maybe the best approach is not to try and replicate it, like La belle et la bête ⁣⁣(2014) which is more like the French fairytale and classic film.
