Un très bon récit fantastique se déroulant en Italie. Au programme sorcellerie, enquête et un prince démon qu'on n'hésiterait pas à invoquer tout comme Emilia. Mais malgré ce beau programme, il y a tout de même quelques points négatifs non négligeables. → Une enquête qui se déroule trop rapidement, les évènements se passent d'une manière très précipitée tout comme la rencontre avec les autres princes démons. → Beaucoup de mots italiens, alors même si on comprend ce que ça signifie, ça casse un peu le rythme de la lecture… → Ce point n'engage que ma personne, mais j'ai eu des difficultés à lire les passages des mots/ lettres/ notes (quand je dis que ça n'engage que moi, c'est que je devais plisser les yeux pour arriver à lire ce qui était écrit donc, j'exagère peut-être et cela est dû à ma mauvaise vue, mais dans mon cas, c'était assez galère de lire ces passages). → L'univers du livre nous présente plein d'éléments et pourtant, j'ai l'impression de ne pas en avoir assez vu, ça manque "d'un quelque chose". → Le plus gros point négatif reste selon moi sa fin, je l'ai trouvé... HMPF, pas vraiment à la hauteur du reste du récit. 5⭐️ Divine Might by @nataliehaynesauthor As you probably know already, I am a huge fan of Natalie Haynes. I’m pretty certain that I have sung her praises on my page before. She has a way of writing Classics to make it more accessible. Because let’s face it, Classics can appear to be a little, perhaps dry? Don’t get me wrong, I studied the subject at college & greatly enjoyed it, but I do see that it can come across as difficult to wrap your head around. But Haynes adds her characteristic humour to her writing to make Classics so fun & inviting to learn about. She’s self-assured in her knowledge enough to not feel the need to dress it up with overly complicated language to demonstrate that she knows her stuff (as a history student, this is usually the frustrating case). I’ve enjoyed all of her works, both fiction & non-fiction. However, this might be her best book yet, which is a bold statement to make as I LOVED Pandora’s Jar. This book follows along the same vein as Pandora’s Jar; the book is telling the stories of Ancient Greek women, in this case, the goddesses. The book is broken into chapters on 8 goddesses: The Muses, Hera, Aphrodite, Artemis, Demeter, Hestia, Athene & The Furies. Haynes manages to achieve the impossible, she completely changed my view of Hera. Now, this shouldn’t necessarily surprise me; she states at the beginning that she will rehabilitate her, or at least, prove that she has been misrepresented & provoked. This is by far the best chapter in the book (they’re all wonderful, but this one is on a whole other level). Having said that, I would say that the chapter on Hestia is definitely the weakest. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still incredibly interesting, I’m just not sure it’s as convincing as the others. As with all of Haynes’ non-fiction writing, this book is incredibly funny. She manages to include modern references without feeling like she’s trying to “dumb down” the myths. I would highly recommend Divine Might if you’re an expert, a novice or something in-between! It’s highly informative, funny & just an all-round stand out book! Thank you so much @emmafinniganpr @picadorbooks for sending me a copy for review!

Hello booksta comment ça va en ce petit samedi matin? Oui aujourd'hui j'ai décidé de poster le matin haha Aujourd'hui je vais vous parler d'une lecture que j'attendais depuis un petit moment. Et ou j'ai mis du temps à le lire. Oui on va parler de Six couronnes écarlates d' @elimpix au édition Rageot. On va s'attarder deux minutes sur la couverture de ce roman, il est tout simplement magnifique. Un vrai bijou. J'en suis amoureux. Sinon l'univers est tout simplement enivrant, magistral et très bien construit. Je visualisais les lieux par lesquelles Shiori traversait. Que ce soit cette auberge, le palais ou elle est tombée dans le lac, le palais de son futur époux, etc. Shiori notre héroïne (une héroïne un peu turbulente mais attachante sur les bords.). Niveau lecture, c'est fluide, je l'ai lu facilement. Même si par moment j'ai trouvé deux trois longueurs. Mais cela n'enlève en rien le charme de la lecture. Et toi tu as lu ce premier tome? Was ich natürlich mal wieder nicht mitbekommen habe war, dass die Geschichte von April und Gavin bereits der dritte Band einer Reihe ist. Gut, dass das Buch an sich weniger mir den beiden Büchern zu tun hat und an sich eine eigene Geschichte enthält. ⚠️ Spoiler ⚠️ Es endet mit einen fiesen Kliffhänger und ich kann es kaum erwarten wie es mit den Beiden weitergeht 🩷 Klappentext: Sich zu verlieben ist Aprils größter Wunsch. Review: The Wren, The Wren by Anne Enright “From Booker-prize winning author Anne Enright, an astonishing novel about the love between mother and daughter—sometimes fierce, often painful, but always transcendent." There’s no question that Anne Enright is a writer of formidable skill. Having read her Booker-prize winning The Gathering some years ago and failing to connect with it, I didn’t think I would read any more of her work. However it turns out I’m a sucker for a good mother-daughter storyline and this one had me intrigued. Still not enough to start reading it apparently until a joint buddy read of two with Chloe @nursefancypants was suggested and I was off! I’m so glad I read this. It blew all my preconceived ideas out of the water - either Enright has changed massively as a writer or I’m just coming to her as a reader at a more considered time. Either way, this utterly surprised me and in the best possible way. I had expected fusty and a little dull, but instead I found the writing incredibly fresh, modern and startlingly youthful! I had to keep checking that this wasn’t written by a millennial - the daughter Nell’s chapters in particular. This book champions strong women as it follows three generations, all orbiting around a feckless and mostly absent man at their centre. Enright’s light touch throughout shows her skill as a writer and I feel enriched from having read it. I don’t think you can ask for much more from a book, can you? Und einem wird bewusst, dass Träume da sind, um gelebt und nicht geträumt zu werden. In einfacher Sprache ist das Buch durchzogen von Weisheiten und Hoffnungsschimmern, die den Leser wachrütteln und Gedankengänge aufzeigen, die manch einem ein ganzes Leben lang verborgen bleiben. Starting my read for September with this first instalment from the Sacred Bone series; I was tempted for the blurb and knowing how the plot was inspired from Korean history and myths with a queendom backdrop making me a bit enthralled. I followed Mirae, the crown princess of Seolla during her coronation ceremony when the event ended with death and terror after she unlocked her new strange power that has caused the risen of Seolla’s ancient enemy. Amid the chaos, Mirae’s older brother, Minho was taken captive resulting to more threats to the peninsula’s already tenuous truce. A hunting mission begins with her trusted companions through the vast land, a journey that soon unravel the story of her ancestors and the reason of the current queen’s misbehaviours. I like how Mirae’s name actually represents her ability to switch places with her future self (some parts of it giving me sort of spoilers) also how the magic system gets me intrigued with its surreal spirit world and dark magic having glimpses on shamanism and stories of gwisin. The plot execution can be a bit underwhelming because of its slow progression with too many changing scenes that at a point did leave me with a hanging wonder. The conflict too honestly did not excite me much but love both friendship and familial parts of it as well the thrilling adventure they encountered during finding Minho mission. Bit intense with some action-packed fights— love Captain Jia for this and I find Netherking’s character to be quite appealing for a villain (somehow anticipated to know more about him in the next instalment). Minimal dynamic and characterization for Mirae as well for the secondary characters (intentional because of the sequel,maybe). Of political mess, emotional drama, resentment and regret— wish the motive can be more absorbingly explored but idk if there is more to it later, might need to wait for book 2, I guess. A high-stakes premise but just adequately plotted for a historical and cultural related fantasy to me, would still recommend it to YA fantasy fans if you’re searching for a new series to delve into. 3.5 stars to this! La poésie a toujours occupé une place particulière pour moi. Quand j'ai l'occasion de lire un recueil de poèmes, c'est toujours un moment à part. Dans ce recueil, la poétesse nous livre des poèmes très intimes qui explorent l'âme et le corps, qui dépassent le visible. On est dans sa tête, dans ses yeux et dans son corps tout entier. On prend aisément sa place. Parfois c'est beau, parfois ça fait sourire et d'autres fois grimacer, et parfois la tristesse vous gagne. Certains des poèmes m'ont paru familiers, il me semble bien avoir vécu certains des moments évoqués et ressenti des choses similaires.
