In May I've enjoyed many nature walks, and also visited Bolsover Castle and a neolithic flint mine (and I may have had a small archaeology fangirl moment 🫣). I've read two books so far in May, but one of them is chunkyyy so I'm very happy with this month's reading. Both are amazing books and at the end of the day that's what matters most. Our guide referred to this section as the stairs to heaven. Very narrow and steep. The weather we had was perfect, thankfully because these stairs wouldn’t be fun if they were wet and slippery. •CAMBER SANDS• I hope you had a wonderful bank holiday weekend! We thought we’d try our luck with some UK sunshine at the beach in Camber Sands, & it paid off (for the first two days anyway!). Thought you may take some inspiration from our rental home, as I certainly did - loved it! There were so many quirky talking points collated from the owners’ travels, & they’d cleverly mixed an array of reclaimed materials to really give texture & character to the coastal property, it truly felt like an escape. It’s also just been put on the market, so if anyone is looking for a holiday pad (ideally still with the intention of renting out pretty please 🙏🏼), then I can first hand report it’s an absolute gem. Main highlight for all of us was the hot tub in the garden, which I noted is by @urbancedar, a Bristol based brand oozing scandi vibes. Just need to find a home for one in my small London garden somehow…hehe. If you’ve not been to Camber Sands before, there’s very little in Camber itself, BUT the long sand dune beach is stunning & could easily be mistaken for somewhere in Australia or the US on a sunny, quiet morning. You’re just 10mins from the historic town of Rye, full of great beautiful buildings & some fabby interiors stores, with an array of vineyards within easy reach - we went to @tillinghamwines this time which had very cool Soho House vibes going on. Hastings is only half hour away, with a steam train for the littlies & again some great boutique interior & antique stores in the old town, & “The Wild West” of the UK, Dungeness, is 20mins the other way. We didn’t make it to these this time, but there are various castles are within easy reach, such as Bodiam, & the awe inspiring Sissinghurst Gardens which is particularly breathtaking at this time of year.
