NEVER LIE // ANATÓMIA LŽÍ I went to the library on Friday and found this book on the shelf. I read the title “Anatómia lží” and i said to myself “hm interesting, maybe i’ll borrow that one” then i was looking at other books and suddenly i read Freida McFadden somewhere but i didn’t know where and that’s when i found out that Anatómia lží is Never lie in English 😭 I’m not used to slovak titles so yea i grabbed it in 0,1s and borrowed it right away. ❤️ I hope this book won’t disappoint, because The Housemaid was perfect (imo). ______________________________ I used one of my favorite bookmarks from @waterstones_amsterdam . Oh. Hey! Been MIA for a minute. I went to a film festival a couple of hours away for a few days. I didn't take off of work, so it was a long few days, but I had a blast. I saw four movies, visited a cat cafe, a tattoo museum/archive, the library (of course), a local nonprofit bookstore, and a teahouse. My chai flight is pictured here, and it was absolutely amazing. I don't usually like Western NC BBQ (Eastern vinegar based all the way), but the local spot Reddit suggested was really good and the potato salad looked sus but was some of the best I've ever had. I picked up The Haunting on the Hill (and a tshirt) from @bookmarksnc. I've been meaning to grab it for a while, and hopefully, I'll actually read it soon. 🤣 Here are the films I saw. Typically, it’s like a month but I had a bit of a drive this weekend which had me finishing it way earlier than I expected. I honestly didn’t think I could love these two anymore than I did after finishing the first two books, but I was so wrong. Ugh my heart in this one pulled in sooo many directions, anger, worry, sadness, happiness all the feels. I gained even more respect for Cooper throughout this book, he’s had so much growth since book one and Ollie- my heart went out to him. You will finally see what makes Park the way he is.I know when I mentioned the possessive wolf thing being hot in book 2, it did not prepare me for how much hotter I’d be in book two 🥵. If you love MM shifter books and haven’t checked this series out please do not sit on this series,you won’t regret picking it up. ⚠️!MY REVIEW(ramblings) MAY CONTAINS SPOILERS!⚠️ This book took a little while to get the hang of, when I started it it was pretty slow and I was kinda of worried about whether it not I was going to like it, but I powered through, and I'm glad that I did as it turned out to be rather a good book! Robin the narrator took a little getting used to, but after a while, I actually quite enjoyed his commentary. This was my first time reading an LGBTQ+ type of book and thoroughly enjoyed it and how the characters were portrayed. 4 🌱 out of 5 -"Lolita, lumière de ma vie, feu de mes reins. Mon péché, mon âme. " Lolita, Vladimir Nabokov. Mais ici nous ne parlons pas de Lolita, nous parlons de Nola. No-La. L’amante d’un homme de trente-quatre ans, Harry Quebert, alors qu'elle n'en avait elle-même que quinze. Elle disparaît pendant plus de trente ans jusqu’à ce qu’un jour elle fut découverte, ses os enterrés dans le jardin de M. Quebert. Commence alors l’histoire sur sa disparition, le mystère qui se cache derrière sa mort. C’est Marcus Goldman qui écrit cette histoire, nous pourrions l’appeler “le personnage principal”, mais vraiment, il n’est que le moyen par lequel nous pouvons suivre les multiples rebondissements d’une enquête qui durera plus de huit cent pages. Je n’ai pas pu m’empêcher de faire des rapprochements avec Lolita de Nabokov, non pas pour la beauté de la prose (qui n’a vraiment rien d’exceptionnel en ce qui concerne Joël Dicker) mais plutôt pour cette “histoire d’amour” (prendre bien soin de noter les guillemets) impossible entre une adolescente mineur et un adulte de vingt son aîné. Également parce que le narrateur fiable de Joël Dicker ne se pose que très rarement la question de l’illégalité et du côté malsain et abusif de cette relation. Trop souvent, cette relation est peinte comme une vraie histoire d’amour par les personnages principaux fiables de l’histoire. Ce qui me met honnêtement mal à l’aise. Mais il s’agit également d’une histoire qui se lit bien et rapidement, pleine de rebondissements, et je dois avouer que pour un premier romain, Dicker s’en sort bien pour créer une intrigue bien ficelée, un récit qui nous tient en haleine alors même qu’il faut donner le nom de pavé à ce roman de plus de huit cent pages. Je regrette des dialogues manquant parfois de réalisme, tombant de temps en temps à plat. A noter le cadre du roman: une petite ville au charme désuet de Nouvelle-Angleterre, dans le New Hampshire. Diana jest jedną z tych pisarek, po których powieści sięgam w ciemno i jeszcze nigdy się nie zawiodłam. Po genialnych dwóch ostatnich seriach z Adą i Krystianem oraz Sawicką i Michalskim w rolach głównych przyszedł czas na powieść "Wizjoner" rozpoczynającą nowy cykl z dr Aleksandrem Lewisem w roli głównej. Jest to kryminał z rozbudowanym wątkiem obyczajowym. Stylistyka i język jakim posługuje się autorka jest bardzo lekki i przyjemny w odbiorze co sprawia, że książkę czyta się w zawrotnym tempie, przyczyniają się też do tego krótkie rozdziały. Ja tą historię pochłonęłam w jedno popołudnie i nie odłożyłam póki nie przeczytałam ostatniego zdania! Bohaterowie, zarówno pierwszo jak i drugoplanowi, zostali w genialny sposób wykreowani, to postaci, niezwykle prawdziwe, takie z którymi z powodzeniem moglibyśmy się utożsamić w wielu kwestiach, podzielając podobne troski i dylematy moralne oraz takie, które z pewnością moglibyśmy spotkać w rzeczywistości. Na kartach powieści mogłam lepiej poznać kilkoro bohaterów, ich myśli, odczucia, mogłam dowiedzieć się z czym się borykają oraz jakie stopniowo odkrywać jakie wydarzenia z przeszłości odcisnęły piętno na ich obecnym życiu, a tym samym mogłam lepiej zrozumieć ich postępowanie oraz decyzję. I loved this book. The plot was so unique, I thought it would be a simple straight forward book but it was so much more than that. It was so raw, and exciting showing realistic situations and complications in adult life. I love how Abigail tried to justify her husbands actions from the hand of his manipulative behaviour. I now realize I can’t make promises about getting back to normal on here. Every time I think my life is calming down it surprises me. So I think for now my goal is to post when I can and eventually it will even itself back out. Thank you so much for bearing with me. The audiobook for Daughters of Nantucket by Julie Gerstenblatt took me a good chunk of April to get through with on and off listening to it. It’s a historical fiction novel that takes place in Nantucket around the time of whaling and centralizes around 3 women and their lives. Based on chapter titles you know a big fire is coming at some point in the book that will affect all of their lives. ❤️Review❤️ This was an interesting book. I teach a tiny bit about whaling in my social studies curriculum. So when I saw a book where that was going to be a small focus I got excited to learn more. I love a historical fiction book that talks about an event that doesn’t have a ton of common knowledge around it. I think what I struggled with the most was the pacing and focus of the book. It toyed the line of being mostly a character driven story with this small taste of it wanting to be a plot driven story. Leading up to the fire I debating dnfing the book due to lack of interest feeling like it was going no where. However once the fire occurred and the character growth began to be revealed I began to enjoy it more. It’s not the stable 4 stars I tend to give, but the author’s note pushed me there. The best thing-the No. 2 Pencil!! A beautiful concept, a story so deeply engaging, and an amazing effort to put across such an important message through such a simple, yet powerful book! Elizabeth Zott and her story is so motivating and all the people around her-the good and the bad-have played an immensely important role in bringing out the best version of her (which she actually already was!!). I loved her knowledge of her subject, her unshaking confidence, her ability to stand up and even pin down when required, and her ability to love with so much compassion in her own uncomplex but tender way! [A history of fashion - a guide for writers] - Some other stuff: I felt like being kinda a bit transparent about this post for whatever reason. Feel free to ignore. I might make a post on describing different bits of fashion later on, and maybe posts that do deep dives into specific eras. I find that my own writing should add a bit more descriptions on what characters wear, which partially influenced this post. Also, I have been doing a lot of drawing as well, and figured this would be useful. I also used this post to experiment with adding images since I find them to be more helpful with this kind of topic and had never done so before. There are some things that this post could improve with. For starters, the section with Rome could be merged with Ancient Greek, to add room for more different cultures elsewhere in the world. ⭐️ Five Star Predictions ⭐️ Thanks to @_weneedtotalkaboutbooks_ for tagging me in this challenge. It gave me a lot of food for thought! I will admit that I don’t often give a book five stars. I’m trying to be more generous with it, but deep down I always want to save that particular honour for a book that is really special to me. That said, I’d like to think I live in optimism that I will enjoy each and every book I pick up. Bet kas skaitydamas įsijaučia, ar tiesiog sugeria visas emocijas, kaip dažnu atveju aš, tai man ji per daug slegianti buvo. Niūri, depresyvi, tiesiog liūdna. Tai vietomis jaučiau kaip kankinausi, kaip skaudėjo svetimu skausmu, gailėjau. Ar rekomenduočiau, tikriausiai ne. if there’s one book i’ll forever be insufferable about, it’s jamaica inn by daphne du maurier 📖🕊️ i am such a du maurier stan like i love every one of her books but jamaica inn does something to me 🥹 it just feels like such a movie in my head when i read it and these last pages read like the end of a 2000’s movie when the two main characters ((literally)) ride off into the sunset together!!! this is the pinnacle of romance to me. jem and mary. also, super obsessed me forced my dad to take me to see the real jamaica inn in cornwall last year!!!! it was such a fangirl moment bc even driving down to it, you can see the scenery and the setting she describes and i could literally picture her writing the book and i died. if you haven’t read jamaica inn, read it and get back to me bc i promise you’ll love it. and if you haven’t been to jamaica inn, go. 🤍🤍🤍

Współpraca: @wydawnictworewizja 12 /2024 Mam nadzieję, że nadrobiliście już Rtęć i Żelazo i jesteście gotowi na ciąg dalszy. Złoto to kontynuacja serii Paradoks cnót, jednak tym razem nie w duecie. Do tej pory ambitna oficer policji Maja Nowicka i gangster Artur Konop łączyli siły i ramię w ramię rozpracowywali nielegalny proceder. Połączyło ich coś więcej niż tylko wspólny cel. Jednak wrogowie są znacznie bliżej niż im się wydawało. Co wydarzyło się po wypadku Majki? Jak potoczyły się dalsze losy tej dwójki? Czy uczucia, które ich połączyły przetrwają próbę? Jeśli polubiliście Majkę i Artura koniecznie musicie przeczytać Złoto. Po Rtęci i Żelazie losy bohaterów lekko się skomplikowały. Ta część poświęcona jest w całości postaci Śniega. Po wypadku Majki wydarzenia z teraźniejszości przeplatają się ze wspomnieniami z przeszłości. Poznajemy przeszłość Artura, jego życiowe wybory przed śmiercią Izy. Cofamy się 9 lat do wydarzeń z Kabulu zanim jeszcze poznał Majkę. Obserwujemy ich wpływ na osobowość Artura i jego dalsze decyzje. Pojawiają się także nowi bohaterowie z przeszłości Artura. Dawny przyjaciel Amir, tajemnicza Olivia i jej znajomy Omar. Standardowo nie będę rozpisywać się szczegółowo co do treści byście mieli taką samą frajdę jak ja podczas czytania 😉 Niby znam już pióro autora, ale dałam się wkręcić. Czytając zdanie „Piętnasta pięćdziesiąt trzy” poczułam niemoc chyba większą niż Artur. Powiem Wam szczerze dawno nie czułam takich emocji, takiej złości na autora podczas czytania. Jednak jak bardzo mylne było moje wrażenie przekonacie się pod koniec. Bardzo lubię postać Majki i uważam, że ona i Artur mimo przeciwieństw pasują do siebie idealnie. Wszelkie inne postacie kobiece z życia Artura neguje chociaż Olivia to niezłe ziółko. ⬇️ Cd w komentarzach ⬇️

Feminizmy - Lucy Delap Q: Kto z was już zaczął ten bardzo długi weekend, a kto jeszcze odlicza dni do majówki? Lucy Delap stworzyła coś na wzór encyklopedii feminizmu. Przedstawia ona działania podejmowane przez różne formacje feministyczne od pierwszych buntów i akcji sufrażystek po współczesne formy. Autorka prezentuje nam, jak duży wpływ na feminizm mają uwarunkowania kulturowe, wydarzenia społeczne. Dzięki tej książce można w pełni uświadomić sobie, jak różnorodny jest feminizm. Wiele odłamów może mieć różne cele, wewnątrz mogą także pojawiać się konflikty, jest to rzecz której nie da się zmienić. Jednak mimo wielu podziałów, grupy feministyczne wiele łączy. “Feminizmy” są najprawdziwszą kopalnią wiedzy. Inspirują do refleksji nad przeszłością, teraźniejszością i tym co może czekać ruchy feministyczne. Powiedziałabym, że po części jest to książka stricte historyczna. Zawiera w sobie wiele faktów, nowych informacji, które mogą przytłaczać. Ale mimo wszystko te konkretne i sprecyzowane informacje są niezwykle istotne, ponieważ uświadamiają nam, żyjącym w swojej bańce kulturowej, jak szeroki jest feminizm i jak wiele form może przybierać i z jakiego powodu. Zachwyciło mnie to, jak autorka szczegółowo podeszła do tematu. Skupiła się na różnych okresach, na różnych grupach etnicznych, co dało nam jako czytelnikom niezwykle szeroki obraz, bo przecież inne cele miały białe feministki, inne czarnoskóre, a jeszcze inne cele miały feministki z Azji. Według mnie ta książka jest rewelacyjną pozycją, dającą niezwykłą możliwość wejrzenia nieco bardziej w głąb feminizmu.
