Today is a happy but controversial anniversary! On this day in 2007 the Gran Fiesta Tour opened in EPCOT. Replacing the El Rio Del Tiempo ride was very controversial as it added IP to a much loved ride for the first time in World Showcase! I have to say I don’t mind the change as Donald is my favourite character, but I understand why many disliked the change! Mondays are better in Mexico 🇲🇽 There's a saying goes that the Irish are the Mexicans of Europe! It's undeniable our similarities with each other. Religion, both former colonies (many Irish immigrants deserted the US Army to fight alongside Mexican soldiers during the Mexican-American war). Large family networks, party harder than most, both warm to outsiders! We love to talk!!!!! (Says me with the long posts always 🙊😅)The list goes on and on!! 🤩🥰🇲🇽🇮🇪 Fun fact: An Irish wrestler living in Mexico by the name of Cyclone McKey was the first wrestler to work masked in Mexico, he commissioned local shoemaker Antonio Martinez to make him a mask out of goat skin!!! On the first day I was here i shared a table with a lady who was a Florida local and was waiting for her daughter to bring their food order, we had this discussion and she told me that during Epcots Food And Wine festival there's an Irish booth and it's their favourite and one of the most popular of the festival 🇮🇪💚 I mean come on Epcot you'd sell a serious amount of Guinness if you open up an Ireland Pavillion!!!! 🤣

✨📍Mexico (Pavilion, EPCOT 😉) It is always a party at the Mexico Pavilion in EPCOT 🤩 I’ve always heard Disney World people argue which country is best to start in… Canada or Mexico?! I need to go again to really be sure of my answer! Lol. But seriously, we started in Mexico and I still had such a great time visiting all the countries after. I was thoroughly impressed with how beautiful the “country” is. The food was 😙🤌🏽 make sure to visit the inside of the pyramid to see how well Imagineers rendered a traditional Mexican Plaza 😍 I felt right at home ❤️🇲🇽 In order of the pictures, all from 📍La Cantina De San Angel & Choza de Margarita • Elote, not seeing it on the app and don’t remember the price but it was great! Reminded me of the elotes I would buy from the elote man in Southern California when I was growing up. Not AS good but it was great 😜 • Tostada de Pollo $11.99 10/10 I really enjoyed the flavor and amount of food it actually had! It was so good and I would get it again and again 🤩 • Mango Frozen Margarita $13.50 delicious! And strong. 10/10, would get again! I can’t wait to be back and spend more time in this part of The World Showcase. The Tamale de Barbacoa is, in my humble opinion, the best item at the Festival of the Holidays at Epcot. It is naturally gluten friendly, and can be dairy free without the cheese and crema. This tamale is unlike others in the past. The dough is light and fluffy and the meat filling is plentiful and divine. However, it is the mole sauce that will keep you coming back for more. Over thirty wonderful ingredients - not chemicals - went into the making of the sauce, and I could taste hints of each as the chef mentioned them. Seriously, they need to bottle that sauce and sell it! The Mexican pavilion at Epcot. I absolutely love this place. It’s home to the park’s ‘dark restaurant’; the ‘San Angel Inn’, which has some delicious dishes (highly recommend the Sopa Azteca). It’s also where you’ll find a boat ride taking a trip into the more colourful side of Mexican culture and traditions. Who says special diets need to be bland and boring? They don’t at WDW! I’m a Mexican food junkie so I was slightly worried about missing out on all the great flavors during my recent visit to Epcot. Foolish me - the chefs in Mexico have never let me down. What you see here is probably one of the most delicious salads I have ever had. The challenge - no oil (or fat off any kind), no dairy, no gluten, no soy, no sugar. Sounds boring right? Wrong! I ordered the Caesar without dressing or croutons. I wanted grilled chicken with flavor and the chef recommended salt, pepper, garlic, and smoked paprika! She also asked about adding tomatoes and mango. I requested lime wedges to use as a dressing, thinking it would be ok. I was wrong! Seriously, the combination with the lime was sublime! I may never use salad dressing again! We have updated our blog for the Epcot Festival of the Arts to reflect our meeting with The amazing Chef Ernesto in Mexico. I am happy to say that ALL 3 food items are gluten-friendly! Mexico always does such a great job of taking care of our gluten-free community, and this year, they have not only hit a home run, but they hit it out of the park and landed south of the border. Seriously, if you have not been to El Artista Hambriento yet this year, get over there right now! I cannot tell you which item is best because they are all amazing. And, if you omit the cheese from the Huarache de Champiñones, you also have a vegan item that may well be my new festival favorite. I need a lot more of this dish. The beef was so flavorful, and the dish can be dairy free by omitting the sweet potato mash. It would also work for anyone on a paleo and keto diet. Ok, let’s talk about the Flan De Coco – perhaps my new favorite dessert. Wow, just wow! Seriously, Epcot’s head festival pastry chef needs to learn a thing or two from Mexico. You do not have to ruin traditionally gluten-free desserts by adding gluten. I may have to schedule a few more visits to Epcot in the coming weeks to keep getting these three dishes.
