DAY 💯: I did it!! 🎉 My 100 day challenge is finally complete. Okay, 😬 100-ish days. But it’s done! 🤘🏼 And I had so much fun doing it! I hope you all enjoyed counting down with me. I know my love for Disney isn’t for everyone, but I hope my art or my silly 🤪 stories were enough to keep you entertained. I’ve met so many fun people and have made so many new friends throughout this challenge and I have so many of you to thank. DAY 99: I don’t know when I fell I love with the PeopleMover, but I know my heart breaks every time I walk through Tomorrowland and I look up to see the old elevated track that ran throughout the futuristic land. And to add the nail to the coffin, this charming attraction was replaced by Rocket Rods in 1998 and don’t even get me started on how I feel about Rocket Rods. Ugh. 😡 Rocket Rods. Deep breaths. Happy thoughts. Think happy thoughts. Anyway, the PeopleMover in Tomorrowland was a relaxing 16 minute ride and went a whopping 7 mph. You’d travel through Space Mountain and Star Tours. You’d get a nice aerial view of Submarine Voyage and Autopia. It was practically a promotional tour for many other attractions in Tomorrowland and I ate it up. And man, do I miss this ride. So my number one, the attraction that I miss the most from all the Disney parks is the PeopleMover and I guarantee many of you miss it too. RIP PeopleMover. DAY 98: I realize a good number of you won’t recognize this parade... but I placed the Party 🎉 Gras parade super high on my countdown because of the story that goes along with it. The Party Gras parade ran from January to November in 1990 and, although I only saw it one time, it was that one time that made it so memorable to me. I remember grabbing a spot with my best friend on Main Street in front of the train station. My mom helped push us towards the front to get a better view (thanks, mom) because we were both short. There was a show stop during the parade and the performers pulled my friend and me out to join a conga line with a dozen other kids and at that moment, my magical memory began. Me, a quirky 12 year old from Long Beach, California, was DANCING in a Disneyland parade. My heart was full. It was the most amazing experience for me and I remember, so vividly, walking back to my mom when our “routine” was over and telling her how much fun that was and how I wanted to work at Disneyland. Like I said before, I know many people won’t even recognize the parade, but if you have a chance, please look it up on YouTube. It’s so much fun! DAY 97: CONFESSION: I’ve never seen 😬 “The Muppets Present... Great Moments in American History” in my life. Sure, I’ve seen it on YouTube a billion times, but I’ve never seen the actual show live in the Magic Kingdom. I’ve heard so many amazing things about it. I can imagine being there in Liberty Square watching the show and seeing the Muppets... the actual (5% larger than the traditional tv/film) Muppets right there before my eyes... I would lose my 💩! Kermit, Piggy, Gonzo, Fozzie and everyone’s favorite All-American 🇺🇸 bird, Sam Eagle singing their catchy tunes and telling their silly jokes. DAY 96: With a faint memory, I can close my eyes and still see the north and south side murals in Disneyland’s Tomorrowland that were created by Mary Blair. I know when I was younger I just wasn’t able to appreciate the artwork of this Disney legend (Class is 1991, for those of you taking notes), but any hint of her art that I see reproduced or sold in stores just makes me stare and study it. And I know we can’t recreate a mural of hers, but maybe persuade another Disney artist who is loved and admired by this community to produce something so amazing that guests will admire it and Instagram the hell out of it too. The Mary Blair Tomorrowland murals land in the number 4️⃣ spot of my countdown. Tragically, the south mural was destroyed in 1986 in order to be replaced by a space mural to promote the opening of Star Tours. The north mural lasted until 1996 when it was covered up by a New Tomorrowland mural. The largest Mary Blair mural that still stands is at the Contemporary Resort in Walt Disney World. DAY 95: I don’t even like country 🪕 music, but I will wear cowboy boots, a bolo tie and I’ll buy all of George Strait’s albums if it means I can get those jamboree-ing 🐻 bears back to Disneyland. Those bears were funny, their songs were catchy and the stories they told had my attention during the entire 16 minute show. At some points of the show, all 5 stages had animatronics playing an instrument or singing and dancing in unison. To a 6 year old, that is what magical memories are made of. So with a heavy heart, I place the dearly missed Country Bear Jamboree show from Disneyland in the number 5️⃣ spot as I continue to countdown what I miss the most from the Disney parks. DAY 94: Oh, Heimlich. 🐛💚 It feels like it was just yesterday that we heard you chomping on candy corn. The fresh smell of animal crackers and watermelon 🍉 filled our nostrils as we rode with you through an area filled with scraps of yummy foods. It was so hard to say goodbye to you since you were such a lovable character. And although the wait time for the attraction was usually longer that the actual duration of the ride, it was still worth every second. Your adorable appetite will surely be missed. This DCA attraction lands in the number 6️⃣ spot as I continue to countdown what I miss the most from the Disney parks. It left us in September of 2018. DAY 93: The Disneyland Skyway 🚡 wasn’t flashy, there was relatively no theming, no characters, no background music.... but the view!!! The view was magic. Boarding occurred either in Tomorrowland or Fantasyland and I remember always getting nervous when it was my turn to get in the gondola. Kind of like boarding a ski lift and hoping everything goes okay. And then once you were on, one of the many highlights was passing through Matterhorn mountain and hearing the wind blowing through the tunnels or the abominable snowman roaring at the passengers screaming on the bobsleds passing by. And the view!! You’d see so much of the park from way up high. The Mickey Mouse balloons being sold by the carousel or the guests below enjoying their day. This Disneyland attraction, which finds itself in the number 7️⃣ spot on my final countdown, was just under 4 minutes, but it let you see the park in a completely new and exciting way. The Skyway buckets sadly left us in 1994 only to return as a broken wreck in the theming found in the Matterhorn attraction. Rest In Peace, Bucks. DAY 92: So you know when you’re a kid and you kind of just believe everything that comes your way. Well, Adventure Thru Inner Space at Disneyland pulled a fast one on me. I honestly don’t remember anything about the actual attraction, except for an incredible storytelling detail in the queue that just BLEW MY MIND 🤯 when I saw it. (And I think you all know exactly what I’m talking about). The guests in the queue would watch other guests board the omnimover vehicle OR ‘Atommobile’ that would advance into a large microscope type of device and pass through a glass tube where you would watch these people SHRINK. THEY SHRUNK!!! AND THEY WERE GOING TO SHRINK ME!!! I could not comprehend how this was possible, but the idea of shrinking to a tiny itty bitty size was so exciting to me. That “shrinking” introduction to the attraction is what puts Adventure Thru Inner Space at the number 8️⃣ spot on my final countdown. DAY 91: When I was around 12 years old, my dad surprised me with a trip to Walt Disney World. 💗 We visited all three Disney parks (yup, just 3!) and one of my favorite memories was a cute little show in Epcot called Cranium 🧠Command. I’ve seen this show once... just ONCE in my life, yet that show was so incredibly memorable to me. It featured a 12 year old boy (already I’m connecting with this kid and his age) who was simply trying to figure his school day out and battling all the challenges that went along with it. It featured many actors who I kind of recognized (George Wendt, Jon Lovitz, Dana Carvey, Charles Grodin....) and I was so intrigued by the show and how it taught me (in a fun way) how the brain and body worked. Cranium Command lands itself in the number 9️⃣ spot on my final countdown. Sadly we all had to say goodbye to the show in January of 2007. RIP Buzzy. DAY 83: If you recognize this attraction queue quote, you’re either a Rock ‘n’ Roller 🎸 Coaster pro, a huge Aerosmith 🤘🏼 fan, or a listener to the @madchatters 🎧 podcast. (That last one is me.) I haven’t been on this attraction in ages, but the guys over at the Mad Chatters podcast have said this line on many occasions in the same sarcastic vein as does Steven Tyler and, since hearing it, I fell in love with the memorable quote. DAY 77: Dear Disney+, not sure what would be the best way to say this, but 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 BRING BACK THE ALL NEW MICKEY MOUSE CLUB!! . . . I have so many incredible memories of this show that aired from 1989 to 1996. Calling me a fan might have been an understatement. I was obsessed. 🤩 I mean, I was 12 years old, an age when obsessions are peaking for any girl. I taped every episode and would memorize the order of the cast member roll call or the themed days of the week. I purchased every magazine that had even the smallest mention of the show. . . Embarrassing, but true story: I actually wrote a letter to the show to interview Candace Cameron for Guest Day. I got a phone call from one of the producers telling me they received my letter and wanted to interview me. Well, I didn’t quite nail that interview so I never got to meet Candace Cameron, but it was a fun memory. . . . Also, can we talk about The Party? My mom was so nice to take me and my friend to multiple The Party concerts where I would scream passionately for Damon Pampolina. Swoon. 😍 We never ended up getting married. . . . DAY 76: Alright Disney nerds 🤓... Fill in the blanks: My favorite “Wonderful World of Color/Disney” show is _________________. . . . Yeah, kind of hard to come up with one unless you’ve seen those shows recently. 😕 I’m hoping Disney+ brings them back because there are shows that date all the way back to the 1950s with footage of Walt Disney talking to Mary Blair about building it’s a small world or Marc Davis talking about the 999 ghosts in Haunted Mansion. Honestly, I watch this footage and I get excited about the attractions as if I have never been on them before. . . . PLUS, it’s Walt Disney talking to us! There is something so charming and genuine when he speaks. DAY 72: When I was 10, I sprained my ankle because I was dancing to Kids Inc. in the comfort of my living room. I remember hearing a bunch of cracking noises in my ankle when it happened and then some pain. I crawled over to the kitchen phone because I was home alone (it was the 80s.... no supervision necessary back then) and called my mom at work. At some point, while I was on hold, I passed out. Whoopsies! . . . When I came to, I called her again and foolishly told her that I “broke” my ankle and just passed out. (By the way, never tell an anxious mom that you just broke your ankle or that you passed out.) . . . Never. Do. That. . . . She came to my rescue, crying in the most overdramatic way possible and took me to the hospital. . . . So with alllll that being said, I would love to see reruns of Kids Inc. back on tv. It was a ridiculously cheesy show (my fave) and it was sooooo 80s. Energetic theme song, the acid washed jeans (with matching scrunchie), all the fun musical numbers and incredibly choreography and the perfect end to an episode with a lesson in morality or personality. DAY 70: 💯 bonus points for anyone who can get the theme song 🎶 in their head within 10 seconds of recognizing this show. . . . Doug was one of my favorite Saturday morning 📺 cartoons to watch over a bowl of Honey Nut Cheerios. I feel I related to most of the characters.... an awkward Doug, an over dramatic Judy and an athletic Patti Mayonnaise. (I may have been delusional about the “athletic” part). Plus the musical numbers that transitioned one scene to another were so unique. Shout out to the incredibly talented Fred Newman and all the unique vocalizations he brought to the show. . . . But last night I spent the evening mulling over which one I would have to paint next. My husband laughed at me commenting that most people don’t worry this much about how they rank rides at Disneyland. He’s probably right 😂. But after much contemplation I realized pirates falls in third place for me! It is extremely beloved for me first because it’s where my husband proposed to me! (Just as we entered this scene room actually). I love the smell, I love how you move from the quiet ambiance of the bayou to the eerie caves below, I love the way the music is stuck in my head for days yet I always get the lyrics confused. Number 4 on my #artsavannatop10 Countdown is: #SPLASHMOUNTAIN! I have a fear of heights, so as a child this was the most terrifying ride I could think of (later replaced by Jurassic Park in Universal). Those mournful songs sung by nurturing mothers, the eerie warnings from creepy vultures, and the threats coming from Brer Fox on how he would devour Rabbit had me shivering for what felt like an eternity as we climbed higher and higher! Yet still I couldn’t keep away from that happy music, all the charming animatronics, those fluorescent colors, and the joyous extravagant finale scene! It all beckoned me to ride again and again. I think the most times I ever rode in a row was 7! It was late, no one was in line, and my brother and I rode it as many times as they let us before the park closed. By the third ride through the cast members didn’t even make us disembark and run through the queue again, they just let our log continue on without stopping. DAY 57: I am definitely not a night owl 🦉 so the simple challenge of “closing the park” has always been a fun idea. Take it from @markbrickey. That guy knows how to shut it down. Plus, it’s seriously one of the best times to be in the park. Great photo ops with minimal amounts of people, short lines for attractions... it’s just perfect. Just avoid the stores at all cost. 🙅🏻♀️ That is the WORST place to be at park closing. So for my number 🔟 Disney bucket list item, maybe one day, I’ll load up on the coffee ☕️ that I barely drink (already a bad idea), get my jammies and Minnie slippers on and take a trip to the park to be one of the last’s guests to walk out of the gate of Disneyland. DAY 55: When my son was 10 months old, he took his first trip to 🏰 Disneyland with me, my husband and our friends, Michelle and Roy. Michelle has a very special tradition where she likes to purchase mouse ears for first-time visitors. Well when she offered to get my son a pair, I couldn’t say no. . We got it personalized (because why not) and as the cast member handed me the Mouseketeer hat with my son’s name stitched on it, I started to tear 🥺 up. . I was surprised with how emotional it made me, but now it all makes sense. I was entering a new world where I would experience the park through a child’s eyes. It was magical and emotional and silly and amazing. So with all that being said, ladies and gentlemen, we have a winner! My number 1️⃣ must have is the classic Mouseketeer hat. The fact that there are Disney pressed penny books with 48 slots for pennies and 9 for quarters (because quarters means you’re a baller) shows that you will drop some serious coins on these collectibles. . DAY 52: Coming in at number 4️⃣ are those one-of-a-kind souvenirs that pop up randomly when you’re on the internet. This no-longer-found-in-Disney-Stores Mary Poppins umbrella was a purchase from DisneyStore.com I made a couple years back. . It came out during the time Mary Poppins the Musical was on Broadway and, let me tell you, this umbrella makes me feel like I am holding the exact umbrella 🌂 Julie Andrews held in the movie. . Unique souvenirs like this one have a bit more magic than your standard 2019 Disney keychain (which I still collect, but you know what I’m getting at). As a huge Mary Poppins fan, I am so happy I purchased this umbrella. It is one of my favorite collectibles. . My husband jumped on the unique-find train one day and purchased two lightsaber umbrellas. DAY 46: So, fun fact about me. I have a huge fear of 🎈 balloons. HUGE. When I am in the presence of one, it becomes my kryptonite and simply cripples me. BUT, when I’m at Disneyland and I see all the colorful balloons together in their bunch, it’s a completely different feeling. Plus the ones they sell now are in that industrial strength plastic casing that doesn’t make my skin crawl if someone runs their clammy hands over it. Disney park balloons fall into the number 🔟 spot when it comes to souvenirs because those suckers just don’t die. You can also have it double as a autograph book. DAY 44: When I was 10 or so, I remember I had this vintage “it’s a small world” read-along 📖book. It was so old that it came with this miniature record that I would play on my dad’s record player. Looking back now, the story that the book told was an incredible marketing maneuver to get me to want to go to Disneyland (shocker, 😏 they succeeded), but it was also my first introduction to the song from the attraction, it’s a small world. The tune is catchy.... incredibly catchy, but it’s such a sweet song with lovely lyrics by everyones favorite Sherman brothers. (I dare you to find a more charming pair of Sherman brothers.... DAY 41: Coming in at number 4️⃣ of my Top Ten Disneyland Attraction Tunes is Grim Grinning Ghosts, 👻 the upbeat song you hear when you board the Haunted Mansion in Disneyland. There are so many memorable elements to this tune! Just listen to the organ in the beginning of the song. It starts off calm and then ever so carefully breaks into this bizarre, off-tune melody that introduces you to a loop of lyrics we all get stuck in our head. Slowly but surely going to finish this #mydisneytopten challenge & in eighth place is Alice in Wonderland 🍄 another attraction unique to Disneyland. I love this one for its design and color palette, but also for that part where your caterpillar goes outside on the ramp and you can wave to random people. 😅 Swipe for some old photos of the original ride.

Coming in hot at number 5 is #IndianaJonesAndTheTempleOfTheForbiddenEye! I remember when this ride opened, and I remember nervously standing as tall as I could at the snake statue near the entrance that marked whether I was big enough to ride. It was and is the most immersive thrill ride! Taking my own son on this just last year was the highlight of our trip, I’ll never forget the genuine terror as that boulder rolled toward us. .
