The issue of bullying is one of the most significant nowadays (to say the least) in Asia, and particularly in Japan, where the statistics are truly frightening. According to The Japan Times, “The number of reported cases of bullying at Japanese schools hit a record high of over 320,000 in the 2016 academic year due partly to efforts to detect early signs, according to the education ministry. A total of 323,808 bullying cases were reported at elementary, junior high and high schools, up 43.8 percent from a year before, with the figure for elementary schools jumping 1.5 times. The problem, however, is also at large in S. Korea, where according to The Korea Times, “More than 30 percent of students in South Korean elementary, middle and high schools are victims of bullying. The data was gathered by the Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs and found 32.2 percent of respondents said that they have experienced violence at school. By age groups, 38.6 percent of respondents between 9 and 11 years of age said they have been victims of assaults, while only 29.7 percent of respondents between 12 and 17 said they have been abused. Not all the respondents were victims. More than 20 percent of respondents answered that they have been offenders.” Expectantly, a number of directors from those two countries decided to tackle the issue, which resulted in a number of quite impressive productions, with a number of them bordering (and occasionally reaching) on being masterpieces. Music Monday No. 16! Today I have my top 10 favorite My Chemical Romance songs. I thought this was going to be hard to make because of being separated from the music for so long but it was actually pretty easy. Here’s a little bit about my Top 5 songs: Mama has been my favorite song almost from the beginning of my time being an MCR fan. I can’t really explain why there’s just something about the music and the lyrics that I just love. The World is Ugly came later but it’s a very close second. It’s so motivational and is just a good reminder that even when things are really hard or the world is falling apart there are still people there who will support you and think you’re beautiful. I’m Not Okay is a classic MCR and I particularly enjoy the music video but this is just a jam and I love it. Kill All Your Friends is interesting because the title is kinda misleading. The song is more about feeling alone in the world and feeling or being betrayed by the important people in your life. Early Sunsets is on MCR’s debut album which took me a while to get into but when I became a fan it was the first song I called my number 1 fave. There’s a lot to be said for a good to-do list, especially with new projects. However, if you’re continually looking at a to-do list week to week, it’s easy to start feeling like a slave to the list. That is one way to stifle your creativity, but it doesn’t have to be that way. You can build habits instead. Habits are not an instant build. They are not something you can write on a calendar. Instead, they’re something you add in gradually. As an example of a business task, I’ll look at Pinterest. To remain active in the Pinterest algorithm, I need to pin five to seven things a day from other people since I haven’t automated that yet. Sounds like a five-minute task, right? The thing is because it’s a small thing it’s easy to push it down the bottom of the list. Before I knew it, it was bedtime, and I still hadn’t pinned. Some days it just didn’t happen. So, I decided something had to change, and looked for a solution. It turns out, it’s easier to build habits when they're chained to an activity you’re already doing. In the case of my Pinterest, I decided to knock it out in the morning. That left me with the choice to do it when I woke up, before I brush my teeth, or before I shower. I opted for before I shower. I set a visual reminder in my bathroom, and it stayed there for at least two weeks. Eventually, you end up with a chain of things you do. This chain forms an established routine, one habit following another. At that point, it’s not a list anymore, it’s a commitment. While this may not for everyone, it works brilliantly for me. Top10 - Filmes lançados em 1999 Já fizemos lista de filmes que completam 50, 40 e 30 anos neste 2024, e hoje eu peço licença para quebrar os números redondos e falar de 25 anos atrás. Não porque ache que filmes que completam 25 anos teriam que estar aqui, mas para lembrar daquele inesquecível 1999. Há diversos vídeos, textos e podcasts que falam sobre o contexto e teorias mirabolantes sobre esse momento no cinema, por isso, eu não vou desenvolver por aqui. Particularmente, foi um ano inesquecível. Eu tinha 14 anos, e foi o auge de dois grandes movimentos cinematográficos que estavam bem próximos. Foi a época de maior público no cinema da minha cidade (moro em uma cidade de 30 mil habitantes que teve cinema até uns anos atrás), e também o grande momento de transição do VHS para o DVD, que redefinir a experiência de assistir um filme em casa. Por isso, a memória afetiva de ter visto uma safra tão boa num momento tão legal, perpetua até hoje.
