🏫NATIONAL PALACE MUSEUM🏫 If someone was to search up “what to do in Taipei”, I honestly believe we have marked off all of the top 10! Thus, of course we had to go to The Palace Museum… including over 700,000 pieces of Chinese history from the island, in addition to many artefacts from mainland the forbidden city! Thus, if you love a good history museum, I really recommend going to this museum! I’m a real big sucker for some great architecture… old or new. Thus, when we arrived at the National Palace Museum, I was a very happy boi 😃 To be honest, it is a bit of a trek to get there… bus and train… but I do recommend it because the path to the museum passes some parts of old Taipei, and we got to see some more traditional housing in this mega city! Cool vibes 😎 Pics in the post: 1-3 = The architecture of the Palace museum, including the historic blueprints for the building! 4-8 = Some of the cool displays they had in the museum, including the really cool scroll, a map of old China, the comb with eyes 👀, an old dragon plate, and one of the oldest coins in China (YAMA). Few works from 14th or 15th century have survived, and this two pieces are exceptional for their exquisite cloisonné technique and the quality of their enamel; nevertheless, the emperor had the character yi (B-grade) and bing (C-grade) inscribed on the base of the rosewood stands which were added during the Qianlong period, indicating that the pieces were not regarded as the finest work. First, a solid piece of ivory was cut to the desired size and worked on a lathe into a round ball. Then 14 conical-shaped holes were drilled into the surface towards the center of the ball. Afterwards, a delicate hooked knife was used to ingeniously carve out a layer between the holes until it could move freely. 此器花狀口緣與其上花卉裝飾可見紅、白相混造成的「明粉紅」琺瑯釉，呈現典型晚明作品特徵。盤心、盤壁與口緣等處紋飾結構，均與鳳凰城藝術博物館藏的一件萬曆款大盤相同。器底殘留舊補痕跡，推測原為萬曆年間製器，後經改裝而成現今之貌。 Covered with the composite “Ming pink”, a coarse speckled mixture of red and white enamel, on its rim and the floral motif, this foliated dish exhibits typical characteristics of late-Ming works. The decorative patterns on the inside, sides, and rim of this dish are comparable to a piece in the Phoenix Art Museum collection in the US, but the latter carries a typical Wanli period inscription. Taiwan Day 3: National Palace Museum 國立故宮博物院@national_palace_museum 🏯🪞🪭 Getting here was a journey but its seclusion is befitting of one of Taiwan’s most hallowed and historically rich landmarks. In this museum is the world’s largest collection of ancient Chinese art and artifacts, which were “rescued” by Nationalists who fled with these treasures to the island in the 1940s/50s, in order to prevent them from being destroyed by the communists. Amazing seeing the most famous works of ink, porcelain, jade, and bronze, alongside immersive contemporary media that allowed us to delve deeper into the details and layers of ink paintings, the realms of Nirvana, and the timelessness of the wildlife and nature as depicted in the oldest media. What looks like a piece of braised pork loin is really a sculpture made from jasper, and I’m not joking that it’s probably the 2nd most famous sculpture in all of Taiwan not only because it’s flawlessly executed to look like a real piece of meat, but because Taiwanese people really are THAT obsessed with food. I also really appreciated the very nonbinary-looking Guanyin. (Swipe>>) I love, love, love Shang and Zhou dynasty (c1600-400 BCE) bronzes. Lots of big or Asian-focused museums will have a small handful of them for me to salivate over, but I was in heaven in the bronze galleries of Taipei’s National Palace Museum, where they had hundreds. Lots more to see here, and I’ll eventually share photos from all the spectacular galleries of this world-class museum. Fun fact: The National Palace Museum has the largest collection of significant Chinese art and artifacts in the world. This is thanks to Chiang Kai-Shek, who moved as much as he could from the Imperial Palace in Beijing when the Japanese invaded in the 1930s, and then moved things again in 1949 when he and the KMT fled to Taiwan. In fact, if you are interested in traditional Chinese culture, Taiwan might be the best country you could visit: not only can you spend days in this museum, but you can also travel the entire country freely (unlike the PRC); and you can visit scads of Taoist and Buddhist temples, since religion isn’t outlawed here (again, unlike the PRC, where it effectively is). Sắp 30t bỗng thấy suy nghĩ mình khác hẳn 🌱 1. Mất vài món đồ giá trị, nghĩ rằng chà may quá không mất giấy tờ làm lại cực rồi không có giấy tờ tuỳ thân sao tuần sau bay 2. Không ai trả lại đồ mình đánh rơi, khoan trách ng đời vô tâm mà trách bản thân hậu đậu ngu xi lần sau phải để ý hơn nghe chưa 3.
