My first market in over 1 year! Here I am at last weekend's Plant Festival Market. What a beautiful event to be a part of!🌱 It was so so amazing to see peoples reactions to what I made. Meeting new people in my new neighbourhood and having friends drop by. The sun making an appearance certainly helped too 🌄 just look that backdrop. I hadn't done a market in well over a year and didn't know if I ever would again. I forgot about the hours of prep work it took, all the heavy lifting and of course fear of a failing / selling nothing. Its always a risk! But there's something so nice about the market world too. There's something unsettling in the hidden face of images. This is one of the reasons I enjoy working with textiles, they have a very different presence. Even when they're inside a box, the resemblance to a body is evident. They have a sense of being alive and vulnerable. In this small piece, two different scenes of the same landscape emerge: on one side, an illuminated house, on the other, the same house on fire. . Il y a quelque chose d'inquiétant dans le visage des images qui reste toujours caché. C'est l'une des raisons pour lesquelles j'aime travailler avec les textiles, leur présence est très différente de celle des oeuvres accrochées au mur. Même lorsqu'ils sont à l'intérieur d'une boîte, la similitude avec un corps est évidente. Ils dégagent une certaine vivacité et vulnérabilité. Dans cette petite pièce, deux scènes différentes du même paysage se présentent: d'un côté, une maison éclairée, de l'autre, la même maison en flammes. . И снова наша постоянная рубрика: КРАШУ😁 На этот раз гранатовыми корками. Они красят всё в жёлтый. Если предварительно обработать материал соевым молоком, то цвет получается более насыщенным (фото 2). При последующей обработке раствором железного купороса, в зависимости от её продолжительности получаются такие цвета: шерсть - от бледно-зелёного до тёмно-коричневого (фото 1), шёлк - грязно-зелёный (фото 3 и 4), хлопок и лен - от серого до темно-коричневого и почти чёрного (фото 3 и 4). А ещё я подержала в отваре корок пряжу, что уже была покрашена басмой. Получился голубовато-зелёный цвет (фото 1). При применении медного купороса жёлтый цвет на хлопке немного теплеет, но не более того. В целом, я довольна результатами и жажду новых экспериментов. Но сейчас я очень увлечена созданием выкройки тедди-лисицы😊 Скоро продемонстрирую результаты.

El tema de la última entrega se titula "Love ethic" (Ética del amor) y la directora nos invita en su carta editorial a descubrir algunas dimensiones del amor como el cuidado, el compromiso, la confianza, responsabilidad, respeto, conocimiento... y abrazarlo en nuestra vida cotidiana con nosotros mismos, los demás y lo que nos rodea y en el caso de esta revista, en relación con la moda. A propósito de todo esto y más concretamente hablando sobre la estrecha relación entre moda y naturaleza, la doctora Mila Burcikova @milaburcikova es entrevistada por Dörte de Jesus @dortedejesus en el artículo titulado "Life in clothes almanac, the seasons of garden and fashion making" donde examinan las interconexiones y paralelismos entre la creación de prendas y los ciclos estacionales de la naturaleza en una granja. Acompañando esta conversación hay unas fotos en las que salen nuestros sombreros de copa o chimeneas de cáñamo como nosotros les llamamos. En las fotos podéis ver una chimenea de cuerda de cáñamo trenzada, teñida con una mezcla de taninos naturales y llevada al gris mágicamente por un posterior baño en hierro. Como en muchas de nuestras nuevas chimeneas, la parte superior de la copa ha sufrido un abollón lateral que lo asimetriza (creo que me acabo de inventar esta palabra) y genera nuevas tensiones. first experiments with alder cone dye, pt. 2 ✸ . . . alder cones and cotton, march 2024. finally sharing the second part of my alder cone experiments! these were mordanted with soy milk, my first time trying the technique as i’m trying to move away from using metallic salt mordants. i need to add these into my t-shirt drawer to test their colour-fastness with regular wearing. the first shirt was tie dyed and then soaked in an iron bath while still bundled up, creating the dark pattern while keeping some lighter, more warm-toned sections. the second was also soaked in an iron bath post dyeing. i love the patterns on the tie dyed shirt, i’d like to try doodling over a close-up photo of it or maybe even scanning a section of it. . . . ↓ tags, ignore ↓ #dye #dyer #dyersofinstagram #naturaldye #naturaldyes #naturaldyeing #naturaldyed #naturaldyer #naturaldyersofinstagram

Ties between India and Indonesia: This pattern is called Patola Ratu & refers to the long silk or cotton Indian trade cloths known as Patola that was used as currency during the spice trade era. This cloth would traditionally worn over the shoulder by a woman or tied around the head by men as a traditional headdress. A headdress would have the fringe pointing upward while the hip cloth would be worn with the fringe downward – an acknowledgement of the realm of the ancestors and the spirits of the earth and living between these worlds. Information about the makers will be supplied with each cloth. Floating warp patterning, single panel, twisted fringe, commercial cotton and natural dyes. Dyed and woven in East Sumba, 2023. Size 174 x 40 cm / 69 x 16 in.
I@made this day #3 eco leaf 🍁 print dye and indigo shibori dye workshop with @helenbilesstudio and her wonderful helper 😜 so great today! Finally got to use an indigo dye bath or vat and use various methods of shibori ( tie- dye) to get some great effects! The leaf printing was particularly amazing… no@idea what they were going to come out like. No control. Great for those of us with OCD 😂 😂 and SO pleased with the results… thanks to @sarahmazdon for getting me in touch with this workshop.
