A mixed feels post...๐ญ๐ We were delighted to meet 4 little White-faced Whistling Ducklings after they had been rescued by Heartland Rescue & Rehabilitation Centre NPO 299-756 But overnight, we lost 3 of the ducklings, and by morning our team desperately tried to keep the last duckling alive. The tiny fluffball rallied, but a new sadness gripped us. Fall season ๐๐ We had a surprising hero today when our stallion Caramba showed some true colors of friendship and loyalty alongside his natural talent for herding. Over the last month he has made good friends with Jere (our eldest bull and the King) and his small herd. Now, Jere is way past his prime and has trouble with one of his legs, sadly to the point where this will be his last season with us. He is in no shape to safely fight with another strong bull of same size and in their prime. Well. James had destroyed (and I mean destroyed!) one of the gates and got out with a herd of 30 other blockheads. Cows ran the short distance right to our yard but James had marched straight to war. Through all fences and into Jere's pasture. I don't know the exact turn of events but what I can gather from what I saw after I got to the site, it seems that Caramba helped Jere with all his might and it may be that they fought James together or Caramba handled it all by himself. Whatever he did, he did amazing. He kept James from getting into the herd of cows and stood between Jere and James, looking like an absolute machine of war. After he saw us and the gate we were opening, he brought James out of the pasture by himself and with such beautiful skill. That stallion and I have beaten our heads together many times. He is a beauty with the manors of a beast. But I have to say that he has more than earned his keep today and I certainly will be trying to find the time to see if my old ๐ still fits saddle and if I could perhaps make use of his talents. Beast he may be but he doesn't abandon his friends at the time of need and show's some unbelievable capability for independence and bravery.
