( if ya know ya know) beside Opal is Eau Claire which was the name of a logging company from years past. Logs were run every 6 miles all the way to horseshoe falls. Opal is a Sacred Grizzly area too. There will be many heavy trucks and machinery moving into the area as Parks does river cleanup for the health of the many fish species that use the water systems in KC till the end of November… Kind of perplexing since down the road . Mt. Wintour with @summit.up.in.a.picture. Today was supposed to be a rest day but Devan convinced me to do a short one. It’s hard to just sit in Canmore all day as weather/smoke is currently prime here. Not a ton of beta about this peak but south ridge, rated 5.4 seems to be the “standard route”. Turned out quite chill. Brought rope, harness, rock shoes and took them all for a walk. Round trip 4 hours. I’ve done scrambles that were steeper, but I have to say trudging straight up the slope at left was my steepest ever hike. No trail after the first half. … Weather was spotty (we got hailed on as we were only a couple minutes from getting back to the car), the luxuriant Opals grass wasn’t yet completely green, and there were lots of ticks. But it was my first day out this season with old hiking buddies, so it was still a great day! … Also, my legs are still recovering, haha. Grizzly Peak in Peter Lougheed Provincal Park. Elevation at summit: 2545 meters. Round trip 3 hours. Went up the easy way around the back side of the mountain then i took the ridge route down. The back side doesnt involve any scrambling and the ridge route has some moderate scrambling. The better way i think to do the loop is to go up the ridge route and down the back side! TOMBSTONE ~ Part Two I remember laying down on a spongy, moss-like vegetation that I imagined would make perfectly equable sleeping station should we spend the night when suddenly I heard, and felt, this howling rumble. Trying to assess my surroundings and determine where the sound was coming from, I realized it had been so quiet you could literally hear the breeze traveling down the valley toward you. Moments later I felt it on my skin - crisp, brisk and sending a fresh shiver down my spine. It was invigorating. My husband and I enjoyed lunch here and talked about just how accustomed & dependent we have become to manufactured sound. The raw, undisturbed sounds of nature were nearly disorienting for us. How backward life has become!! I returned to enjoying the near complete silence, with the exception of a small trickle of glacier runoff feeding into the lake. Though it was opposite my position, the sound were as clear as if the water had been flowing right next to me. I decided right in that moment this was MY internal scene. That place I never wanted to leave. That picture in your minds eye when someone says “If you could go anywhere....” It’s Tombstone. Excelling silence. Absence of general society. On my first trip to Tombstone I was struck by the absence of noise. Sound became so pure and undefiled it was surreal and yet intrinsically grounding. In our modern world, we become very accustomed, even desensitized, to man-made sound. Tombstone has a complete vacancy of manufactured sound. What was more, she also showcased her natural surround sound stereo effect created by the bowl shaped rock face just above the lake. I avoided the crowds again today... only saw four other people on the trail. I had the summit all to myself. Mount Indefatigable, Kananaskis Mt Indefatigable is part of the Opal Range in the Canadian Rocky Mountains. It was named after a British battlecruiser that was sunk in the early stages of the battle of Jutland in WWI. Six other peaks in the same range are named after ships or people involved in the battle.
