RACKED & BAGGED, READY TO GO !. . As a school boy club runs were a staple of my cycling life. In winter mudguards and saddle bags were compulsory. Somehow I never had enough money for such uncool accessories, so was always riding at the back of the group, as no one wanted a cold wet dirty stripe from my back wheel ! And saddlebags where seriously old ! So my Jersey pockets where overstuffed with survival essentials. A full blooded roadie, obsessed by derillium ! . About 25 years ago when living in NY I bought this Caradice saddle bag in Condor cycles on a trip home when feeling nostalgic. But tried it a couple of times, and was totally bugged by its butt tapping on a modern saddle, I know you can get special little frames ! But continued filling my back pockets with everything and sundry ! Whether road, MTB or CX. . As gravel has taken off and carrying a bit more sensibly onboard makes sense for longer adventures I decided to try a rack from my dear freinds at @fern_bicycles and @allygn_components their component brand. Which suited the forks I had in mind for the lugged gravelo ! . In the age of reuse I dug out the old Caradice, which looked as good as new, and fitted it on arriving at our holiday house, low and behold all straps matched ! . The side pockets where a nuisance with the controls, so a carefully unpicked them, I suddenly had everything as desired !. .. What a suprise ! I love it ! Everything I need in a stable platform and easy to access, no jersey weighed down at the back. Agh ! A happy convert to the cyclo touring logic ! Boy oh boy did I have a fun time down at the first @belgianwaffleride Asheville! Got a good slingshot off the front from @jeremiah_bishop_mtb_ and just went with it for a little bit. Pack of absolute hammers caught me after the first climb but in true mountain biker fashion I used zero road tactics and chilled at the front for awhile. Sat up in a bad spot got spit out the back. found myself in no mans land after a while when I decided to go off the front of the chase group. Always a fun time chatting and racing alongside @quadsworth there was no shortage of smiles or laughs while we were together making a good time out of a solid day on two wheels in that group. Solo 30 miles caught the tail end of the front group and Was able to sprint in for 9th overall. timing somehow got all messed up again but I guess it can be a pain with that many people. Had a good dinner the night before with the @flowformulas_theblackbibs family at @dylanjawnson house. Looking forward to hitting it again next year.
