London Marathon 2024 professional photos Part 1 Lots of photos to get through and they are all great so stay tuned for more to come 😜 As I always tell everyone we must celebrate our achievements and that includes me celebrating mine. So I have completed 7 marathons in 5 years and I am super proud of myself for that. This takes dedication and commitment plus I just love it what can I say. Throughout my life I have battled with my weight and still do but that has never stopped me doing the sports which I love including football, swimming, tennis, badminton, squash. A comment I got this week was "What you completed a marathon, but you are chubby". My answer "I have completed 7 actually thank you very much". Other comments I get is why are you not more slimmer with all the running you do. It is what it is and I have never found a solution to it and have just ignored it. Happy Friday 🌞 The post-marathon blues has got me thinking about my next challenges. I recognise the importance of rest (however frustrating I find it) and have basically been meandering through the working week fitting in stretch and mobility sessions where I can. I will reconvene with running on Sunday (I think, at a very relaxed pace) given I am surprisingly well recovered from last Sunday’s antics. Last night however I couldn’t sleep and I kept thinking about all the opportunities I’ve had to break the BQ. That dreaded 3:30. The last two London marathons I have basically paced to perfection (almost) and 3:30 has literally been seconds away from my grasp. I’ve been thinking about how busy that course is, how overwhelming the crowds are and how the bottle station situ, thousands in their fancy dress (which of course is wonderful) and the weather conditions can impact your time. In essence, I’ve probably realised that London is the best marathon course in the world - but it certainly is not one to try and break your PBs on 🫡 So, next spring, when I’ve got over my NYC marathon effort (which I am going to give my all but is apparently hilly so not hoping for any world record times, so will be for enjoyment purposes only), I am going to choose a “fast course” to try and get that BQ I’ve been working towards for the last two years. T H E W H Y 👇🏻 . With half a mile left on Sunday…the finish never felt so far away. As I plodded up Birdcage Walk toward Buckingham Palace, the race distance markers now only highlighting metres instead of miles, the internal voices screamed silently into every muscle in my body…each step felt like it was just on the spot… . At that point the @lordstaverners support team picked me up with an overwhelming cacophony of clapping, cheering, name shouting and instantly put breath back into me, put energy back into me, put purpose back into me…made me feel as if I could do it all again… . This singular journey from sign up to finish line, has been anything but. As part of #TeamTavs the community has always been there, always offering support…and this is exactly what this wonderful charity does on a daily basis for hundreds of thousands of young people across the UK… . We love running but we also love to celebrate our achievements 😊 I started Monday evening heading solo to the New Balance store to get my medal engraved. I ended the evening with this lovely bunch ❤️ this is the beauty of the running community. I wasn't aware of the medal framing until @parkrunneruk told me when I saw him at the New Balance store. So happy I got this done as well as getting a frame for Sherif for his 1 mile PB at the Mini Marathon. He was so happy when I gave it to him. We headed to @billsrestaurant for Burger and chips with Peach ice tea followed by @francomancapizza 😜 we made good use of the rewards on offer to us for our marathon accomplishments. London Marathon, Race Recap 2: 21-32km 😬 Scroll for vibes 👉🏼 After big crowd hits at Cutty Sark and Tower Bridge it was onto the tough portion of the course: Canary Wharf. Skyscraper-made wind tunnels, dead spots in crowd support, let’s starting to fatigue… not a great combo 🙃 Given I was behind where I wanted to be time-wise, this was also where I was pushing hardest to pass people- I knew if everyone was suffering then this was chance to work my way up the crowd… definitely backfired a couple of times where I’d pass the line, just to get hit by a wall of wind 🙃🙃 Made it through relatively unscathed, although one of my hammies was starting to enter the chat 😬 My amazing friends also popped up in the course unexpectedly, which was a big hit of good vibes when needed the most 🫶🏼 Out and into miles 19-20 and I was feeling good again! (Or at least happy to be out) Mile 20 is not typically where you feel your best, but I’d heard bits about the @run.dem.crew section beforehand and they did not disappoint- the support was immaculate 🤌🏼 Huge cheers, big tunes, and a confetti cannon gave me a big ass adrenaline hit that was much needed 🙌🏼 I think someone shouted I was the first @tracksmithrunning through, but it didn’t click that I should’ve run for the Trackhouse to try for the trophy until long after the race 🤷🏻♂️ Maybe next time. Tower Bridge 🌉 ❤️ Without doubt, the best area of any marathon I’ve ever run. It’s nearly impossible not to cry, every emotion pours out of you as you realise you’ve trained four months for these very moments. Both sides of the bridge covered in rows and rows of people all screaming and shouting for random people. Full vibe mode activated as the runners find energy from somewhere to scream and shout back. R U N C O M M U T E 🏢🎒 Packed off my nerdy little running rucksack and headed off for a run home from the office today. Overall it was really nice and whilst it takes longer than a cycle or the tube, it’s a hell of a lot nicer than getting on the tube at Bank at rush hour 🥴 It’s about 11k from the City to where I live, which is very do-able but takes a bit of planning! Unfortunately due to my work from home patterns I have to run with my laptop 💻 in my rucksack as I need it at home tomorrow, which is NOT ideal. My back is feeling it a bit now! I did my running rucksack up as tight and best I could but it still didn’t feel as secure as it should have. Some more experimenting needed methinks 💭 I used to run home from work quite a bit in a pre-covid life where I went to the office every day and just left stuff there. It’s a bit harder nowadays with a different routine but I’m glad I did it - decent midweek distance done, fresh air, money saved on the tube and home to pjs and pasta 🍝 Who else does a run commute to or from work?
