How do you support those you love when they are grieving? My friend lost her dad suddenly ๐ It was heartbreaking ๐ she saw her dad a lot. Both her parents came and took the grandkids out at least once a week, they very a very close family. When her dad died, I felt helpless. It was during covid, so seeing each other was difficult, I'm not even sure seeing me would have helped that much. When I discovered that her dad was going to be cremated, that's when I knew I could give her some comfort. By adding a little bit of her dad's ashes into silver so she could keep a piece of him with her always, so she could feel his presence every day and know he is always by her side. I made four pieces that day, 3 pendants, one for her mum, for her and her daughter, and a bracelet for her son. ๐Max๐ Max entered his family's lives when he was 8 years old. Prior to reaching them, he experienced abandonment too many times. When they first got him, he was skinny and shy, but as he grew comfortable in their care, he blossomed. "He hesitated at first to destroy his first toy, but with our encouragement, he wholeheartedly embraced it." They got him a Rottweiler buddy, named Jack, to help him socialize and they both taught each other what it meant to be a dog. Max's keepsakes were pretty unique to say the least! I could feel Max's hesitancy to trust while making the first of the pieces his humans ordered. The first two heart pendants I made failed miserable. This has never happened in the 3 years I've been doing this work but the resin didn't cure properly with the ashes and it essentially broke apart. I took a moment and held Max's ashes in my hands and softly spoke to him explaining that I was making these keepsakes for his humans and that I don't mean any harm. I could feel him trust me just then so I decided to proceed and try the heart pendants again. This time they did not fail and they can be seen on the left side of the photo. I then took the ashes from the failed pieces and made the two heart pendants on the right. If you look closely, they look different to my typical pendants. I took the broken pieces of the resin and ash and sealed them together inside the hearts. Max still had a say though, one of these hearts grew a little protrusion while curing and I couldn't bring myself to sand it off and recoat it. Max wanted it there, so I left it. I actually quite like these and I would never be able to repeat this again. They are truly unique to Max. Max's statue was made without issue after the pendants. This may sound strange to some, some I truly belive the pets have a say in how their pieces turn out. It's not something you can understand until these bizarre and insanely cool things happen. On our 10 min drive from the airport to her place these woman were standing in front of a church on a side street and flagged us down. They told us the mom of these kittens was crossing the street with them and was hit by a car. They were keeping the one and trying to find homes for the other kittens. This little kitty was the only one and they handed her to me. I didnโt even have a home yet but looked at this tiny baby and decided to take her. She was a month old and I had to feed and bathe her. I named her Pepper.." I couldn't help but quote this whole story from what Pepper's person wrote to me. This is such a perfect example of the right place at the right time, and how animals tend to find us. ๐Lucky๐ Lucky's person, Ashley, met her when she was in vet tech school doing a practicum. She had been left on someones doorstep as they were unable to care for her and she ended up being brought to the clinic Ashley worked at. She was a border collie cross and Ashley describes her the day she met her as an "adorable tiny black ball of fluff". She ended up sneaking her into her parent's home and fell in love with her. She had lung surgery in 2020 and did well until she began to struggle again in 2023. Lucky and Ashley spent one more summer together before they said good-bye.
