September is a great time of the year to see the Northern lights in Yellowknife, NT, Canada. It is dark enough and not too cold at night, and lakes are not yet frozen so there are beautiful reflections of aurora borealis. The most common issue for photographers is humidity and the dew point. Around the equinox is often a good time too, as there seems to be more active auroras. All you need when you go to Yellowknife are clear skies!!! I also like to go when the moon is not too bright for darker skies ;-) PS: These 2 pictures were taken on the same night - shortly after sunset and past midnight. We used our Camera Parka classic that night for humidity and dew.
