Magdalena is known as the "Trails End" for the railroad spur line that was built in 1884 by the New Mexico Railroad company from Socorro to Magdalena to transport the cattle, sheep wool, timber and ore. Thousands of cattle and sheep were driven into town on the historic "Magdalena Trail". This stockyard driveway was used annually, from 1885 through 1916, when the driveway was officially designated by law through the signing of the "Grazing Homestead Act". It remained continually in use through 1971. The original stockyards are still intact.

Yesterday, we teamed up with St. Andrew's Episcopal School from Amarillo, Texas for a shoreline cleanup at Venetian Causeway! Together, we made a huge impact, collecting a staggering 80 pounds of trash. Among the debris were unexpected finds like a seat cushion, two fire extinguishers, and even a belt. Cool morning for our Adventure Friday to Minerās Marsh for a little birding and then off for a hike around the Kentville Ravine. The Kentville Ravine is a beautiful old-growth Hemlock and Pine forest, one of the few that remains in eastern Canada. Struggled to leave Ronda this morning š¢ Used the laundry facilities, pumped the tyres and filled the fridge at Lidl. True to our coddiwompling nature, we took a detour via Cortijo LA Organic on the outskirts of the town. An olive oil producer running tours, a cafe and a shop. We were lucky to hop on the end of a German tour and benefit from the hostās information (in English āŗļø). We now know how to choose, and taste the best oil - and bought a few treats as well as enjoying a coffee on the terrace, overlooking the orchards with this amazing view š«š« Finally onwards, all of 20km, to the delightful little Camping Nogalejo for the weekend. A sunny corner pitch with olive groves over the hedge. The weather has ramped up AND NO WIND - so an afternoon with our books, a swim and a BBQ while the site slowly fills up. Bezoek aan de stad Ponte-Vecchio en nabij gelegen strandjes. En die laatsten zijn mooi maar niet zo toegankelijk. We voelen ons in ieder geval niet erg welkom en al helemaal niet omdat ons vervoermiddel een campervan is. Je mag nergens parkeren en al helemaal niet slapen. Dat laatste begrijpen we! Blijkbaar hebben de locals zeer slechte ervaringen met toeristen in campers. Zo jammer en sneu eigenlijk! Helaas wordt er niet naar je geluisterd als je uitlegt dat je op een camping logeert, dat je alleen graag even over het strand wandelt en iets in hun strandtentjes komt nuttigen. Nee we worden steeds weggestuurd, zelfs nu het niet druk is in het voorseizoen. Beetje gedesillusioneerd en unhappy zijn we eigenlijk wel. We gaan morgen een bezoek aan Bonifacio (stad) brengen en daarna weer wat het binnenland in. Our first step in working our way north for the summer was checking out the northern end of the 393 Powerline Trail. When the Diamond Fire burned the area last year a bulldozer was run across a section of the route to facilitate easier access when fighting the fire. We went up there to see how the trail had handled the past year and evaluate options for making sustainability upgrades in the future. After the evaluations, thanks to our close working relationship with the Forest Service, we were allowed access to the peak of Mount Ord for a lunch with unbeatable views! Staff and volunteers have enjoyed watching the downy woodpeckers nest in the backyard at the office! It looks like it won't be too long until these little ones fledge. Although clearing away dead branches and trees is a customary stewardship practice for yard and farm maintenance, leaving non hazardous dead branches and trees provides important resources for wildlife such as nesting, roosting, food storing, and foraging. Holly Hanna! I am either in horrid shape right now or I still need to shave some weight from my plein air set up. Honestly itās probably a bit of both. The painting was a bit rushed as it was getting late, a bit stormy and something was hanging around in the forest beside us that was making the Little oneās fur stand on end and a stream of growls and barks come out of her chomper. Otherwise it was a glorious day spent in the mountains with my boy and little Miss M, painting, chatting and taking copious amounts of photosā¦ it dosenāt get better in my books. Oak Flat: š«¶š¼ This landscape is so unique. Juno and I arrived at sunrise and parked in the Oak Flat campground area. We walked the dirt road and with every little turn there was a gorgeous landscape of scrub and rock. This area is in danger of being minded for Copper. Moderate surf or currents may be present, making swimming a bit more challenging. Exercise extra care and only enter the water if you're a confident swimmer. Grafton, Utah is a class 2 agricultural ghost town in Washington County. Founded in 1859, it was originally named Wheeler. 40 days of rain destroyed much of the original farm land and town. It was reestablished in 1862. The 1969 Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid was partially filmed in Grafton. A lot of the town was severely altered for the movie.
