Miniature Indian hawthorn ‘Snow Maiden’ makes the perfect low hedge in this exposed position. I’ve planted just over 100 plants in this section a few years ago & kept them clipped to 600 mm high. Maintenance is minimal requiring 4 trims per year. Un nuevo jardincito con @pablonavarropaisaje en Nou Benicalap (València). No es fácil enfrentarse a los muchos condicionantes disruptivos de muchas promociones inmobiliarias modernas. Si abriera el ángulo de las fotos, veríais un decálogo de prácticas individuales y colectivas tristes. La suerte que hemos tenido es la de contar con una familia sin pretensiones pero sensible, sensata. Creemos que hemos ido a favor del lugar, con un diseño con carácter pero materialidades y colores coherentes. Combinamos grandes jardineras metálicas a medida ligeramente rehundidas bajo una nueva tarima, zona verde y zona funcional en equilibrio. Las claras líneas ortogonales se rompen sólo en la salida hacia la zona comunitaria, con un parterre curvo sobre cota original que expande los ánimos y disparará la profusión vegetal. La circulación se produce sobre un agradable triturado de corteza de pino. Los cerramientos no son nuestros, sino de los vecinos, y por petición original del 'brief' no se ha pretendido cerrar apenas las vistas. Necesitamos más familias así. Con la ayuda de @soliventpaisajes y plantas de Pla del Pou y Plantanova. Nos hemos divertido con especies más tropicales y frescas en este emplazamiento de costa y sombreado durante la tarde. Un par de topiarias de Rhaphiolepsis umbellata de gran formato y la alineación de Dodonea viscosa aportan volumen mientras crecen las vivaces.

We digressed across the front of an unfenced yard to photograph the big clump of red hot pokers in photo 1. Photos 4 & 5 are of the Strelizia flowers atop those huge plants shown in the previous post. Wingham Public School, commonly known as Murray Road (it’s location) is shown in photo 6. Photos 7, 8 & 9 are of plants growing in gardens along Murray Rd I thought of interest. A pink flowered Indian Hawthorn or Rhaphiolepsis, that weirdly shaped succulent, Kalanchoe beharensis or Felt plant, growing across like a bower & a lovely pine with drooping needles, possibly Pinus patula, the weeping Mexican Pine. Such a favourite and not noticed unless I point it out to visitors - I didn’t know how good it was when I planted it about 15 years ago so it hides by the boathouse. Raphiolepsis umbellata flowers for ages in early to mid summer, then has lovely berries and all the while has brilliant touches of scarlet as some of the leaves turn red- I think just with the pleasure of life by The Pool. It is well protected on every side so never suffers from frost damage even though it is evergreen with thick oval glossy leaves looking rather as if it might come from a hotter climate. The only teeny issue I have with this plant is that it doesnt smell, and it looks like it should 💚. I’m enjoying catching up with my daughter & the Corgis. Was given a tour of the garden yesterday & enjoyed being entertained by Chase & Bolt, both wanting cuddles & pats. Chase is jealous of Bolt receiving attention & needs chastening occasionally to put him in his place. Just a little photo of some of yesterday's trimming. 2nd proper, big trim on this Raphiolepsis or Indian Hawthorn. The trim before this was just a little neatening up of some extra long Spring growth as it was in full-flower. First trim was quite hard as it hadn't been cared for in quite a while, but with a good soak, a little bit of organic fertilizer, 2 sessions of foliar spraying with a seweed/fish-based liquid fertiliser and hey presto, we're looking good again. Raphiolepsis come in 2 colours, that I know of, the more common pink and the white. This is a white one .
