I just added some beautiful 2” Calliandra haematocephala to the shop, commonly known as Red Powderpuff or Pink Powderpuff, it is a stunning flowering shrub/small tree native to South America. This species thrives in warm climates and is well-suited to USDA Zones 9-11. In the desert it grows best with some protection from hard frosts and afternoon sun. I completely fell in love with after seeing the specimen pictured here growing at the botanical gardens in Tucson. It features striking spherical flower heads that resemble powder puffs, with vibrant red or pink hues. (The one I am offering should be pink.) The blooms typically appear in spring and summer, though in favorable conditions, they may continue to bloom sporadically throughout the year. Calliandra haematocephala is a popular choice for gardens and landscapes, attracting pollinators such as hummingbirds and butterflies with its abundant blossoms. On Saturday, we celebrated Arbor Day by planting 13 native trees and shrubs at Leeland Park in Whitemarsh! We added to the park's existing shade trees by planting large-maturing trees, planted a small grove of redbuds to add some more spring color, and improved bird and insect habitat by planting a cluster of 3 arrowwood viburnums. We’re excited the weather is set to improve, especially in time for the Bank Holiday weekend. We've just taken delivery of lots of herbs, climbers, shrubs and roses including some lovely old favourites like 'Tuscany Superb' and 'Cardinal de Richelieu' and the scented climbers 'Mme. Gregoire Staechelin' and 'Zephirine Drouhin'. Lilak pospolity ‘Aucubaefolia’ pochodzi z Francji. Krzew ten dorasta do 3 m wysokości. Oprócz kwiatów ozdobą rośliny są liście - sercowate, pokryte masą drobnych, żółtych plam, co daje efekt pstrokatości. Kwitnie od przełomu kwietnia i maja. Jego kwiaty są bladoliliowe, podwójne, zbudowane z rurki oraz kilku szeroko rozpostartych łatek w kształcie łódeczki, o wywiniętych do góry brzegach. Kwiaty przyjemnie pachną, są osadzone na szczytach pędów w gęste kwiatostany, złożone z kilku stożkowatych wiech. Co ciekawe odmiana ta bardziej obficie kwitnie sadzona na glebach lekkich, ubogich w składniki pokarmowe.
